10 Tips To Stay Focused At Work


1)? Divide work into smaller parts

If you feel overwhelmed by a task, breathe! Break it down into smaller chunks, for example 30-minute sessions, taking a 5-minute break in between. In this way, breaking down large tasks into smaller pieces makes them less stressful and easier to manage. This way, time will fly by.

2) Mentally Prepare

If you are like me, the second you sit down to start a task, your mind is flooded with ideas and things you need to do, everything except the task at hand! To avoid this, take a deep breath, think about what you need to do and get mentally prepared. Close your eyes, zoom in on the task at hand and FOCUS.

3) Set the time

Starting a task at a specific time and planning to finish by a specific time will help your mind organize itself. By doing this, you help your mind concentrate and organize what needs to be done and how long you have to do it. Try not to look at the time too often as this is distracting too.

4) Take short breaks at work

At the beginning of the workday, you can feel swamped by the enormity of what will come. Working for 8 hours continuously is tiring and not conducive to productivity. Aim to take short 5–10-minute breaks in between tasks. Get up, stretch your legs, make a coffee. Then, return with renewed enthusiasm.

5) Prioritize

If everything is urgent, then nothing is urgent! Sit down and prioritize your tasks, what needs to be done ASAP, and what can wait until later. Try categorizing into four sets:

? 1:?Crises - URGENT and IMPORTANT

2:?Goals and Planning - NON-URGENT and IMPORTANT

???????????????? ???3:?Interruptions - URGENT and NOT IMPORTANT

???????????????? ???4:?Distractions - NOT URGENT and NOT IMPORTANT

This way your tasks will become more manageable, and you will have more clarity.

6) Work environment

If you work remotely, try to have a dedicated work area that you can walk away from at the end of the working day. This is important for differentiating your work/life balance and destressing.

Always tidy your desk at the end of the day and make the space look inviting, maybe with plants and pictures.

7) Do not overwork

Work smarter, not harder. Working long hours without a break is NOT productive. If you are tired it′s easy to make mistakes. Know your limits and stick to them, regular breaks, turning off your work phone ( if possible ) at night, and only replying to emails during work hours are vital practices to safeguard your mental health.

8) Practice keeping notes.

Whenever I have a great idea, I send myself a WhatsApp. Whether you are more vocal or like to jot things down in a notebook, keep notes of ideas and important moments all in one place. It′s quick and easy and stops you from forgetting things.

9) Work with interest

Hopefully, your job should have at least some enjoyable aspects! Although you need to look at your job holistically, celebrate the good bits. Try and find ways to cultivate and expand on these areas.

10) Exercise

There is a lot of truth in the old adage, “healthy body, healthy mind “Getting some form of exercise every day improves your well-being and mood drastically. Just a brisk 30-minute walk in the morning can lead to better results in the workplace.
