You've built your website, you're getting some traffic from social media, maybe you're running some Google or Facebook ads, but you're not getting any enquiries or calls from your efforts, what's wrong?
I see it all the time. Businesses spending marketing $$$s on traffic that hasn't got a hope in hell of converting into prospects - why? Because they're not doing a job of building trust and authority.
Unless you have the brand power of let's say an Amazon, you're going to need to work hard (very hard in some markets) to convince people to part with their most important and prized asset - their personal information.
But, it's not all doom and gloom! I'm here with a few handy tips on how you can get your landing pages converting into prospects, and in turn, hopefully into customers.
1. Video
Sounds obvious in 2021 but having a video massively influences conversion rates. It doesn't need to be Hollywood quality, just something simple that tells the visitor - how you can help them, what you do, why they should care, and what the outcome will be after you use their service or product.
2. Social proof
You need to demonstrate to visitors that you can deliver on your promise BEFORE they hand over the keys to their life (i.e. their personal information). So, make sure your page has a healthy smattering of reviews, testimonials and even little screengrabs of positive social media comments.
3. A strong hook
What can you offer people to give up their information? Maybe a free guide, or what about a taster session or free report? Maybe your hook is a kick-ass case study where you've helped someone in the same market?
4. Accreditations
If you have industry accreditations make sure these are clearly displayed as they quickly build trust and authority with your prospect.
5. Visible and consistent calls to action
Make sure that you have clear calls to action throughout your whole page, especially if your page is long. And don't neglect mobile users, so make sure your buttons are a decent size so that the sausage sized finger brigade (me included) can tap to call you.
6. Who have you worked with?
If you've worked with some big organisations then make sure you tell the world about them, especially if they're highly influential in your market. You can do this using a scrolling marquee of brand logos that shows how highly regarded you are.
7. Avoid stock photography
Always, always, always have your own images above stock photography. I'd only ever use stock images where cost or availability prohibits using your owned shots.
8. Photos of you and your team
Where you can and where appropriate, I'd recommend you have pictures of you, and your team on your landing pages as this again builds know, like and trust quickly. Your goal is to convince someone why they should get in touch with you, above your competition.
9. Focus on outcomes
There's a great phrase a learnt a while ago - "focus on futures, not features". This translates to telling your audience what they will have, feel or gain from using your product or service. You should focus your messaging on the outcomes, not just the features of your product or service.
10. Page load speed
One of the biggest conversion killers is load speed. Make sure you use images selectively and ensure they're optimised in terms of file size. I can't go into too much technical information here how you can improve page load speeds, but just be mindful that you've really only got 2-3 seconds before you start to lose people.
And there you have it, my top ten tips for improving your website conversion rates. How does your website and product/service pages stand up to these ten tips? How many are you missing?
11. (Bonus tip!) Exit popups
Not everyone is ready to buy....yet! So one of the best ways to stay in touch with people and warm them up is by offering something in return for their email address so you can keep in touch. You can do this by having a popup come up as people are leaving your page with an offer or freebie. Then nurture them with value-added emails, then over time, you're more likely to be their go-to company as you've kept in touch with them.
