10 tips on starting your own business idea without investing

Starting your own business is tough. I still don't consider us a business even though we have done 4M in sales the past 2 years off $0 of upfront investing. I always use to listened to Shark Tank during the part where they are introducing Kelly O'leary saying he is a mogul who started his business off a $10,000 loan, damn that's a lot of money... But that was really the mindset I had when we first started the product. (please keep in mind each business is different, so mine is based off learning from my specific experiences).

Here's how to start up an early stage start up and the thinking / mindset needed each day, here are 10 tips on early - early start ups and how to continue to succeed:

  1. Don't start unless you love your product / service
  2. Don't continue if you wouldn't use your product / service yourself. Would you be a customer if you were on the other end of your business? If not, adjust.
  3. Think about & use your product more than your customers
  4. Test your product publicly, if you love it you will.. you'd be surprised how many people will be a future customer from years of effort..include them in the journey
  5. Think how can I be unique, how can I make it a no brainer for my potential client
  6. You have the vision, after all you started it. Would they risk their money on it? If you did then you will have the vision. Don't be a know it all but keep asking questions on how can I make my offering better, my service better. You will only be as good as the level of service you provide. Learning will be key to the perfect product. Don't take offense to suggestions, look at it from an objective standpoint.
  7. Throwing money at everything is not the answer. If they really believe in you or you really want them you will find a way. Early on stop spending money, the money won't get you customers your market knowledge and testing daily will. Apply constant pressure on your idea til you get it right. Tweak, Tweak, Tweak, like every day, every hour.
  8. You won't get rich quick so if you are expecting that quit. Go get an executive job somewhere or sales job making huge commissions, they are out there. But, your brand / company will be huge one day but by then you will be doing it for other reasons.
  9. Everyone will be mean or tell you how wrong your idea is, don't believe them because you literally can do anything you want in life and if they were so good then what is there business doing right now and why don't they run it? Would they? What happens if your business fails / idea doesn't go through to them? Nothing. What happens to you? Your vision/idea would be ruined. Just do what you want and run with the ball everyday.
  10. Revenue now profit later. Get users and add value to their life thats all that matters. Adding so much value they can't resist. If you want personal training do whatever you can to make it so unique for the user it is the most caring experience you can have.

Hey Ross. Glad to see it's going well! You were always persistent and passionate. I knew you would be successful with BodyBoss. That's awesome! I was just suggesting it to someone at work yesterday that wants to work out at home. Keep up the good work. Hope all is well... Jeff

Good post.
