10 Tips to Design the Life You Want

10 Tips to Design the Life You Want

"Most men die at 27, we just bury them at 72." — Mark Twain

In yesterday's session of the Collective Cafe, we delved into the profoundly simple yet life-altering domain of designing the life you desire.

The inspiration came from Matt Gray and this post with 7 tips. I added 3 more to take us to 10.

Here's the essence of our discourse, distilled into a potent brew of empowerment:

We kicked off with Quit Procrastinating, where we explored the deceit of false productivity and the power of present action. The Level 10 meeting, a concept from EOS Worldwide , emerged as a weekly ritual to combat the inertia of delay.

Prioritizing Health came next, emphasizing a clear vision not just for our eyes but for our souls. We discussed the deceptive allure of energy vampires (you know who they and sometimes you are) and the vitality of family and gratitude.

We then took the reins of our future by replacing stagnation with Action. Whether it’s a run to combat unfocus or seeking nature to alleviate burnout, we recognized the need for tangible steps against intangible foes.

Crafting a Vision was our fourth step, where we examined the importance of setting goals that span decades to days, ensuring our ship sails true north towards its intended destination.

Step five, Take Violent Action, was not about aggression but about confronting the difficult with vigor and resolve, surrounding ourselves with excellence, and owning every facet of our lives.

Consistency, our sixth step, revealed the magic of compounding actions. Small, incremental changes, stacked over time, yield a harvest far richer than the sum of its parts.

(1.00)^{365} = 1.00

(1.01)^{365} = 37.7

Choosing Play, Fun, and Adventure reminded us of the wisdom of Mark Twain and the tragedy of dying young inside an aged body. We pledged to inject spontaneity and youthful zeal into our daily lives.

To take our seven steps to ten, I introduced three additional steps:

Embrace Healing Emotions, where we acknowledged the anti-inflammatory life-extenders of admiration, generosity, gratitude, and curiosity, as taught by Dr. Mario E. Martinez .

Discipline and Accountability was our ninth, with personal scorecards and rituals that solidify the ephemeral into the concrete, making our aspirations accountable.

Lastly, we discussed the power of Fostering Meaningful Relationships — connections that nurture and challenge, that reciprocate and enrich, both personally and professionally.

This session was a call to arms — to cast off the shackles of procrastination, to tend to our well-being, to seize our futures with intention, and to infuse our days with joy and discipline. It was a reminder that life's design is in our hands, and it's crafted daily with each choice we make.

I look forward to our next gathering, where we'll continue to shape our narratives, share our journeys, and elevate each other. Until then, may your days be purposeful and your actions resonant with the life you aim to design.
