10 Things to stop to get more of what you want!

10 Things to stop to get more of what you want!

In this week's newsletter I'm going to share 10 things which might be stopping you from getting more of what you want!

Your unconscious habits and beliefs are keeping you trapped in jobs, relationships and lives you hate.

Hate is a strong word, but in the beginning when you're learning about what's possible for you, choices do seem all or nothing, right or wrong, black or white - there's no room for the shades in between until you get a new perspective.

10 things stopping you from getting more of what you want!

Let me know in the comments which of the following you resonate with the most. Before we begin, I want to share a quote from Gloria Steinem.

"The truth will set you free, but first it will p*ss you off."

1. You don't know what you want

If we were having this conversation with your friend, how do you think they would answer this question?

How come they know the answer to this and you don’t?

Why is it possible for your friend to know what they want and you don't, write out the story in your head right now.

This story is the hurdle that's stopping you from having the life you want (the story may be valid/have been) in order to move forward you'll need to let it go*

2. You don't believe you can have what you want

At some point in your life experience something happened, someone said something, did something, shared something which caused your brain to decide 'certain things' are not possible for you, that it's not safe for you to have them.

Overly simplifying the neuroscience here, to help you 'avoid certain problems' in the future your brain helpfully wrote an automatic program it can run every time it senses danger.

BUT the problem is that your brain made a lot of assumptions at the time, it was young, inexperienced and didn't have external validation - which means what your belief is not the highest truth.

3. You don't have enough time

This is a fear response to uncertainty.

Whenever we encounter new things, we have two options, one try something new until it becomes familiar, or two find an excuse not to.

This may sound a little harsh, I get it, you've got a lot on, you're busy...but if I were to tell you that you'd just won the Lottery and you needed to go to the bank to process the payment - I'm sure you'd find the time for that!

It's less about having enough time and more about the willingness to make time to try new things, there is no other way to get more of what you want.

4. You don't have enough money

This may well be true, but not everything you want requires money, and not everything you want requires a lot of money...The only way you'll move past this is by breaking down your goals into small daily activities (we teach people how to do this in our 25 Day Reset Yourself Program ) and in time you'll find you have the money you need and that money will flow to you the more you keep moving forward.

5. You don't have the right qualifications

I still wrestle with this one some days too, if I just had one more certification then I could...

Which does two things, first it invalidates everything I do know, and secondly, it's a scarcity mentality, which is friends with the enough family...I haven't done enough, I don't know enough, I am not enough.

All of which are limiting beliefs - no one is ever the finished article when they start, which is why books are revised, plays are adapted, software is updated and new models are produced.

6. The people you are spending time with

Our caretakers (parents/guardians) begin our education into the world of what’s possible for us, then comes the teachers, society, culture, religion and the media we consume.

Books, travel, conversations and the internet all present us with possibility and potential. Your DNA gets you started but it’s not destiny…the degree to which you remain curious is the degree to which you will be able to dream and achieve bigger.

7. The social media accounts you follow

Technology has fundamentally changed our lives in the last 50 plus years, in ways we could never have expected and continues to do so. We can scroll our social media feeds and see how people hundreds of thousands of miles away are living their lives, we see what their homes, food and clothes look like, as well as the things they believe.

They used to believe the world was flat. They used to believe that it was impossible to run a mile in under four minutes. They used to believe that flying was a dream and that the World Wide Web (the internet) was just a fad.

Become aware of the influence the accounts you follow are having on what you believe is possible. Notice how the content makes you feel, uplifted, inspired and motivated, or angry, depressed and judgemental. I’m not arguing for right and wrong; I am simply encouraging you to become aware of the impact they are having on the success you are/are not experiencing!

8. The TV shows you watch & the media you read

Building on my previous point notice the narratives, biases, values and vibration that the content you are consuming are reinforcing or challenging.

When we live and learn in echo chambers it can be hard to develop an independent approach to life. We believe what we repeatedly see/hear.

9. Your current routines & habits

The more self-awareness you practice in your own day to day life the faster you will notice the consequence both positive and negative of the things you are regularly doing and the impact they are having on you getting more of what you want.

10. The state of the environment you live/work in

Notice how where you live/work is making you feel on a daily basis, are you inspired and uplifted, or overwhelmed, cluttered, frustrated and demotivated. Change what you can today, and set goals with daily actions steps for the things that will require more time manifest in your life.

What does any of this have to do with Rethinking Productivity?

If you identified with one or more of the 10 things, I’ve just mentioned then your time is being stolen from beneath your nose.

Each point is just a point until you recognise the amount of time, effort and energy it is taking for you to believe it, do it, prove it or not even be aware of the impact it’s having on your life experience.

If we imagine for a minute that these things are driving the metaphorical bus of your life, making decisions all day every day, what needs to change for you to achieve more of what you want with the new perspective that you now have?
