10 things to stop doing on your LinkedIn posts

When it comes to posting on LinkedIn, there are some things that work......and some things that erm... just don’t.

I’m a big fan of showing your individuality via your posts, so I don’t usually recommend cookie-cutter “this is what a good post looks like” type advice.

However……there are some boundaries that you maybe shouldn’t cross and some things you should probably stop doing in your posts.

Check out the list below and let me know in the comments if you’ve seen these “crimes” in action…

.......or worse still, if you’ve been guilty of them! ?

The 10 things to stop doing on your posts

  1. Tagging a million and one people to boost your post visibility. This is soooo NOT cool ??
  2. Announcing the day and/or time every time you post (as in “Good morning”, “Happy Monday”). You’re not a calendar.
  3. Starting sentences with, “I don’t normally share this but…” Please spare us and just go ahead and share anyway.
  4. Starting sentences with “I’m excited to announce…”, “I’m honoured to…” or the equivalent. These are clichéd phrases and a turn-off for your readers.
  5. Tracking what post number you’re on – e.g. “This is post number 397 of me posting on LinkedIn”. We’d rather you keep that info to yourself.
  6. Referring to a previous post you shared in your current post (as in “Following on from my last post…”). No one’s keeping track but you.
  7. Asking silly questions on polls to get attention. I mean, do you REALLY want to know whether I like to take a walk outdoors or indoors? ??
  8. Addressing *everyone* with a blanket greeting – e.g. “Hey LinkedIn”, “Hey friends”. Much better to talk to one person at a time, if building relationships is your goal.
  9. Always being the guru/coach/hero. Sometimes you just need to come down off your pedestal and relate to your audience of mere mortals ????♀?
  10. Asking people ON LINKEDIN what their favourite social media platform is. No words for this one, just eyes ??????

Did I miss any other LinkedIn post don’t dos?
