My TOP 10 Things to focus on when YOU want to be the best you can be. Life is way too short so focus on YOU, who YOU are, what YOU value and ultimately go for what YOU want.
1. Focus on what makes you ROCK
Only YOU matter. Focus on your talents, strengths, values, what you love, your passions, goals, dreams…Life is way too short not to focus on you. You rock for a reason. Hone in on your talents and strengths; only focus on those. We can’t be great at everything (believe me I have tried!). And finally surround yourself with people who have different strengths to you. P.S. If you don't know them write them down...
2. What we think WE become
Thanks Buddha; I love this quote. It is true; our thoughts really do have power. If you think you can’t; you can’t. If you say to yourself; I am not confident, you won’t be confident. You are the Director of your Mind. Only have empowering actors and actresses on that stage. Get rid of bad actors! It is amazing how having positive, useful and empowering thoughts can change your life. Attention goes, energy flows. Say to yourself; I am strong, I am confident, I am amazing, I am talented at this, I can do this and watch yourself ROCK it!
3. Comparison is the thief of JOY
I remember when I first started my company and people used to say to me to focus on what my competitors are doing. Why would I do that? Waste time, energy and brain space on what others are doing. I don’t believe in competitors anyway; so I didn’t put any energy into it. I focused on me, our why, our talents, our purpose and what made me and our company different and unique. Comparing is deliberating. Do not compare and let others do their thing.
Focus on you and rock it!
4. Surround yourself with your TRIBE
My tribe means everything to me. I only surround myself with people who truly believe in and support me. I always make sure I empower, care and encourage my tribe. Those people around me who want to see me succeed and care about our vision and purpose. They are there when I need help as we ALL need help as times. I get rid of people in my rowboat who want to put holes in it. I know this can be tough, remember some people are in your life for a reason, season or lifetime.
I only have people in my rowboat who want to help me row it!
5. Stop peddling and act NOW
We get caught up in the busyness of life. I am busy, we are all busy. I get it. I have taken busyness out of my language and I now say I am hard working. We can get caught up in the peddling and busyness; and forget about the things that really matter. Our dreams and goals, our values, the people we love, things we love to do, and places we want to see. Life is so short; please don’t let life just go by where you are just peddling. Focus on your values, the things that are really important; the big ROCKS. Spend time planning and reflecting on things you truly want and things that truly matter. By setting goals and achieving them (if you don’t achieve them all, don’t worry!), you will gain confidence. Confidence and courage breeds through ACTION. Don’t get to the end of your life and wish you had achieved and done more. Do it NOW!
6. Put YOURSELF out there
We work with so many leaders who are too afraid or don’t want to put themselves out there. They are scared of failing, won’t put up their hand, don’t want to be noticed or don’t believe in themselves. I refuse to go through life and no give it 110%! Put yourself out, ask for the new role, put you hand up, ask him or her to be your mentor; just do it. If you get a no, say next until you find that YES. Always find that Yes. You are in control of your life, put yourself out there. Take control today.
7. Success is 99% ATTITUDE and 1% Aptitude
I LOVE attitude. Attitude matters. I would not be where I am today without believing in myself and having a great attitude. Now I must tell you; at times I have felt like I have faked it or been that imposter; we all have. I knew I could learn and I believed in myself enough to go for it. YOU set your attitude. Success to me is having an attitude where anything is possible. Don’t want until you have tick 10 out of the 10 boxes for that promotion or new role – just set your attitude to I CAN DO THIS! You have so got this…
8. Don’t regret the past, LEARN from it
I have made mistakes and had some fundamental stuff ups. That’s life. I love this quote by Abraham Lincoln –
“If you have never failed, you have never lived.”
I have learnt some of my greatest lessons and insights from my best failings. Well I suppose looking back and even today, I call them great lessons. Don’t ever regret the past, you can’t do anything about it. Learn from it and know where you are today is where you need to be. Focus on today and the choices you make today, They will determine tomorrow…
9. Fake it and you will BECOME it
Faking it; interesting concept. The mind is such a powerful thing. I am always visualising where I want to go, what I want to be and my thoughts and actions are focused truly on my vision and purpose. I remember years ago I really wanted to be One of Australia’s Best Leadership Keynote Speakers and at the time I felt like an imposter, as I did not know if I could do it. I changed my mindset and reframed it. I kept saying to myself “I am a brilliant keynote speaker” and “I am going to rock it as a speaker”. By focusing on this, I made sure I also opened myself to learning and developing as a speaker, registering with speakers bureaus and speaking at numerous events and conference’s across the globe (some for free to gain experience). I never once said to myself I can’t do this. I visualised myself on that stage time and time again and saw myself rocking. And today I truly see myself as one of the best! The brain cannot distinguish between doing and visualising. That is why I say to the leaders I coach, think about where you want to be in 1 or even 3 years time, and start visualising and acting like it now!
10. Be the BEST version of you
I am me. Truly and authentically me. Each and everyday I wake up and set my mind to being the best version of me, focusing on my purpose and making a difference. Being me means, being present. It means focusing on my talents and strengths. It means empowering and inspiring others to be the best versions of themselves. It is about caring and collaborating with those around me and sharing knowledge to help others be better and think differently. It means being truly passionate about what I do and who I am. It ultimately means that my best version is the only version to me. Sure I get those people around me that try and pull me down, I don’t let them. We are all different and unique. Don’t waste your life trying to be someone else as YOU rock.
Be the best version of YOU everyday.
