10 Things To Be Proud of From This Year

Taking stock of what happened and didn't happen at Pink Among Men in the 2023rd year of our almighty lord-she.

Three-hundred and thirty-nine days ago, I was a slightly younger woman with a somewhat larger bank account.

That is the trend for 2023, huh? Everyone, not just your fellow artists and media/entertainment friends, seems to be “taking a step back,” recalibrating, figuring out a new path forward — hovering above survival. I even purchased this moon journal last week to guide me into the new year.

Creative professionals tend to quantify their time by their successes. It’s a painful first-world existence and a challenging way to think in a year where so much opportunity slowed, paused, or ceased to exist.

What do successes mean, though? Are there likes/impressions on a post? A significant festival screening? The green light from a network? Money, new title, signing with an agent? Flossing every night? Making Rent?

All of the above, friends. All of the above.

For those of us who work within the pipelines of Tinseltown, 2023 was a dumpster fire of a year, full stop.

Living through a historic double strike will someday feel like a badge of honor. Still, at the current moment, for many, it feels like we are sitting in the last chair on the left at the holiday dinner table. At the same time, your uptight aunt questions if you have health insurance, your nephew racks in a six-figure deal from Warner Brothers for time on his unboxing YouTube channel, and your cousin panders you with questions about “why they,” as in all of Hollywood, thinks this or that.

But we made it - almost, and as we inch towards the last days of the year we remind ourselves to be grateful for what we do have and what got us this far.

And so, we are taking stock of ten cool things that happened this year and what’s in store for 2024 at Pink Among Men.
