10 things to guarantee your LinkedIn success in 2021

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re one of the many people who’ve made a New Year commitment to blow the dust off your account and actually do something meaningful with LinkedIn in 2021.
If that’s the case, congratulations on a great decision – especially if you have a service-based business!
It is indeed very possible for you to build your brand, grow your business and increase your income this year through being visible on LinkedIn, but if you want to guarantee that success, here are 10 things you need to know:
1) Clarity on your audience is a must
You must have clarity about who your target audience is and wholly focus your efforts on delivering value to them. Trying to market to everyone is a costly rookie mistake. Don’t do it.
2) Being visible is uncomfortable
The process of being visible WILL be uncomfortable – be prepared to leave your comfort zone far behind if you want to make progress.
3) It’s okay to be yourself
Don’t adopt a “professional LinkedIn voice” to try and cater to what you think people want. I hate to use the word ‘authenticity’ because it’s become a bit of a cliché, but really, being authentic is not only okay, it’s a must if you want to succeed on LinkedIn. It’s in being yourself that you will attract your ideal clients to you.
4) Posting content is essential
Make 2021 the year you show up with content that serves your audience and showcases you and your business (click here to read my article on the three types of content you should be posting). Leave your lurking days in 2020!
5) Conversations convert
Stop gathering numbers and start building relationships through conversations. Have conversations on your posts, on other people’s posts, in your inbox, on zoom calls... It’s in having genuine conversations (with no sales agenda) that you convert audience into fans and fans into clients.
6) You can’t bypass time
Yes, you don’t have to spend endless hours a day on LinkedIn to get results, but you DO have to put in some time. There is no magic formula to bypass this. The more you put in, the more you get out - you have to allocate sufficient time to act on your LinkedIn strategy.
7) Commitment equals results
You’re not going to experience the kind of results you want from LinkedIn unless you fully commit. Stop flirting with Facebook, Instagram and the rest if LinkedIn is where your target audience are. Commit fully and you will prosper in due course.
8) You must invest to progress
Quit trying to DIY everything if you want to make real progress in your business – you have to make an investment! Whether it’s buying a book to up your knowledge (yes, that is indeed a cheeky link to my excellent book, Start Being Visible), enrolling in a programme, or hiring a coach, you’re going to need to make some kind of investment if you’re going to grow. DIY won’t cut it in 2021 – if you keep doing more of the same, you will only get more of the same.
9) It needs to be sustainable
Learn the rules of LinkedIn success, yes, but adapt the rules in a way that fits your business and life, otherwise you won’t be able to maintain and sustain a visible presence on LinkedIn.
10) There is no shortcut to success
Building your brand, growing your business and increasing your income through LinkedIn is absolutely possible BUT it is a process that takes time. There is no “quick and easy” shortcut to finding success on this platform. You’ve got to be in it for the long run.
So that’s it – make provision for these 10 things and you will guarantee your LinkedIn success in 2021 and beyond!

3 年#2 Was a tough one for me - I'm not active on social media in my personal life so trying to be vocal on LinkedIn was a struggle. Then I implemented my own "sin verguenza" strategy (no shame) and took away the fear of rejection and it really helped! (It was the same thing I did when I was learning a new language - once I did that, I woke up one day and realised I was fluent!). My goal for this year is to focus on "Conversations convert."
