10 Things Everyone Should Know About BIM
Here are 10 things that everyone who interacts with building or infrastructure should know about information management to IS019650 standards.

No 1: You're Involved in BIM, Whether You Know It or Not
Information Management to ISO 19650 requires everyone participating in the Planning, Design, Construction, Use, Operations, and Maintenance of buildings and infrastructure to share and manage all relevant information through a controlled digital process in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
No 2: Everyone Needs Information
No Matter What Your Role:
No 3: BIM is NOT Just About 3D Models and Clash Detection
Information managed under ISO 19650 includes ALL project information, including, Models, Data, Drawings, Schedules, Specifications, Estimates, Analysis, Reports, Product Data, Safety & Environmental Information, Certificates, Checklists, etc. EVERYTHING
No 4: Information Requirements
An Information Requirement specifies or defines:
Different Levels of Information Requirements:
It is the Responsibility of the Asset Owner (Client/Employer) to specify or define the Information Requirements (but they may need some professional help).
No 5: Understanding the Structure of Buildings and Infrastructure
Buildings and Infrastructure are complex. To understand the Information Requirements and manage information delivery, you must understand their structure.
Buildings and Infrastructure are collections of:
A Classification System (e.g., Uniclass, Omniclass) aligned with ISO 12006 provides a common language across all roles and disciplines.
Everyone should use the same Classification System:
This digitally connects Scope, Cost, and Time.
No. 6: The BIM Execution Plan (BEP)
The BIM Execution Plan (BEP) is a detailed "method statement" document:
No. 7: The Responsibility Matrix
To define Information Requirements, create a LIST of:
This list identifies who is responsible (by role and task). This is the Responsibility Matrix.
For each item in the Responsibility Matrix, define:
NOTE: Since materials/products are unknown at project start, the Responsibility Matrix must be updated as the project progresses though stages.

No. 8: Information Delivery Plans (MIDP & TIDP)
Information is delivered as Containers (digital files/documents) uploaded to the CDE.
Types of Information Delivery Plans:
No. 9: The Common Data Environment (CDE)
INFORMATION is delivered as:
Ensuring data is accessible, trustworthy & useful.
The 3 Types of Information in the CDE:
File Management:
Every file uploaded to the CDE is named using metadata codes (eg. PRJ-ORG-SYS-LVL-TYP-ROL-NUM), to organise and find information. The meaning of the Codes are defined in the BEP
Approval & Acceptance Process:
Files move from Work-in-Progress > Shared > Published, recording contractual transactions (or exchanges of information).
No. 10: 3 Core Digital Skills Required by Everyone
1. Ability to Work with "Tabular" Data
2. Ability to Interact with the CDE
3. Ability to Use a 3D "Model Viewer"
Why Use ISO 19650 Information Management Process on Your Projects?
Organizing & Digitizing INFORMATION about Buildings & Infrastructure using BIM and ISO 19650 standards helps to:

Architecture, IM/Data Mgt + Experience. Informed decisions + traditional knowledge of fabrication and assembly, Use digital methods and content. Keep the end in sight! #bimheroes #bimcoordinatorssummit
2 周Ralph, that's a simple white book for BIM discussions. Something we need to have out on the table at discussions. The reasons for using ISO19650, on the project, including Save Time, Save Money, Improve Collaboration & Coordination, Improve Quality, Performance & Outcomes, Increase Safety & Sustainability. A real benefit for discussion is having some real costs/values. If we can get some shared content, that's a better discussion.
