With its impeccable reputation as a lifestyle suburb, Wishart is both a lovely place to raise a family and a commuter-friendly location for professionals working anywhere in the city. There’s so much to love about this peaceful, quiet and convenient suburb on the Southside of Brisbane, we could sit and talk about it all day.
Wishart holds a special place in Henry’s heart, as this was where he grew up and was educated. He considers himself a true local, and as a Wishart real estate agent he loves helping people here with moving onto the next chapter in their lives.
Leaning on his long history here and his deep knowledge of Wishart, Henry has compiled a list of his ten favourite things about living in Wishart:
1. Wishart’s School Catchment Zones
Wishart is blessed with being right in the middle of some of Brisbane’s most desirable school catchment zones. These are the demarcated zones around a state school where the students attending the school will live, and in Wishart families really are blessed with options when it comes to education. For a start, Mansfield State High School is one of the leading schools in Queensland, both state and private, and the whole of Wishart has access to it for high school years.?
In addition, Wishart State School and Mansfield State School are also highly respected institutions Wishart residents can send their kids to for Prep to Year 6. As well as the state schools, there are great private schools within the suburb, including Brisbane Adventist College, St Catherine’s Primary and Citipointe Christian College.?
2. Wishart is Close to the City and the Bayside
Talk about mobility! Wishart is just 15 kilometres from the centre of Brisbane, so it takes around 20 minutes to drive into town on a clear run. If you commute into the city for work, this is the ideal balance of job proximity and suburban living. Wishart offers very easy access to the Pacific (and Gateway) Motorway, so the Gold Coast is also an easy drive of under an hour.?
The outdoorsy attractions of Moreton Bay and the bayside area are also within easy reach of Wishart. You can be exploring Wellington Point, Wynnum, Cleveland and even North Stradbroke Island with very little travel effort!?
3. The Wishart Community
Wishart has a welcoming community full of people from around the world. The diverse ethnicities of the residents here gives a lot of depth to life in Wishart, with community run events being especially popular.?
A favourite is the Wishart Parkrun, a fun running event open to all age groups. Completely run by the community, this takes place every Saturday morning and is a great way to meet the neighbours and get fit in the process!?
4. Public Transport
There is a solid local bus network through the streets of Wishart, placing any home within easy reach of a bus that will take you to the city, Garden City, the bayside or surrounding suburbs. The 180 on Mt Gravatt Capalaba Road is particularly convenient and popular!?
The South East Busway can also be accessed at Westfield Garden City Shopping Centre, providing a direct route into Brisbane City.?

5. Westfield Shopping Centres
Wishart residents are blessed with being in close proximity to not one but two Westfield Shopping Centres! There’s Westfield Garden City, located just a few moments down Mt Gravatt Capalaba Road. Then just a little further north is Westfield Carindale, probably around eight minutes drive from most Wishart homes.?
Both these centres offer an incredible array of boutique retail outlets, grocery stores, bars, restaurants, cinemas and amenities. You’re spoiled for choice!?
6. Other Shops and Conveniences
As if two Westfield shopping centres weren’t enough, there are a range of other shops and conveniences in Wishart. Shopping centres include Wishart Shopping Village, Civic Fair and Wishart Square, where you’ll find eateries, takeaways, dentists, groceries, pharmacies and medical centres. Everything you need for an easy lifestyle isn’t far away in Wishart!?
7. Bulimba Creek Bikeway and other Parks
The Bulimba Creek Bikeway is an incredible trail covering 33.2-kilometres, stretching from Wishart up to Murrarie with multiple access points along the way. You can do small sections at a time or be adventurous and give the whole trail a crack. It’s green and lush and a great oudor pursuit!?
There are plenty of other parks in Wishart to enjoy, with a favourite being the Boorabin Picnic Ground, where you’ll find a dog park and agility area, plus a picnic and barbeque spot.?
8. The Houses
Being an established suburb built way back in the 1960’s, in Wishart the old adage “they don’t build them like they used to” rings true! A lot of the original properties are brick and weatherboard homes sitting on large blocks of land. Buying these and renovating them has become a bit of a trend, with the sprawling blocks being attractive to families.?
In addition to these houses, there are many apartment blocks and townhouse complexes to be found in wishart. We love that there is something for everyone!?
9. The Climate
This rings true for the whole of Brisbane and South East Queensland, but how good is our climate? Subtropical in nature, it gives us clar conditions for most of the year! Winters are short and cool, and summer days are long and hot. Too hot for you? Jump in the pool, go to the Gold Coast or check out the Southbank artificial beach! There are sunny and fine days all year round to pursue your outdoor recreational activities – it’s why we’re called The Sunshine State!?
10. Perfect Positioning for the Olympics
The clock is ticking down to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics! It may seem like a long time away, but it’ll be here sooner than you know it and Brisbane residents are really excited! Wishart will be a great place to enjoy the Olympics from, with its easy access to the Woolloongabba venue that’ll form the centerpiece of the occasion. This is going to have a positive impact on our suburb and the real estate industry here. Get onboard and let’s ride the Olympic train together!
