10 Takeaways From Attending My First Tony Robbins Event

10 Takeaways From Attending My First Tony Robbins Event

Over the weekend, I attended the Time to Rise Virtual Summit that was run by Tony Robbins, and I want to share my learnings.

Initially, I journaled about these and then thought that this is worth sharing.

Whether you're a fan or not, it's undeniable that he has some amazing energy about him, and that's something I really admire.

I've been a fan since my 20's and there was a time when I had his program "Get the Edge" on CD... wow, who remembers CD's? ??

This was the first event of his that I've attended, and I really enjoyed it.

Here's my take aways:

1?? State >> Story >> Strategy

Most people start with the strategy - the "how" - but they are doing that from a "story" that they have about themselves and their current situation.

This story is formed from the least optimal state. Instead Tony suggests that we start by changing the state, and that will shift our perspective - our story - to one that is aligned with the state - and then we figure out the strategy, the "how".

2?? Sound helps to change state - make some noise!

The music and cheering that people associate with Tony Robbins' live events is actually quite powerful.

At first I felt a little silly and self-conscious... and then after giving it a go, I could surprisingly feel the difference myself. Singing, yelling, cheering fully engages your neurology as the sound resonates through your body.

3?? Movement is the fastest way to change your state

Movement causes a biochemical change in the body, and I've heard Tony say that "Motion leads to emotion".

Whenever your state or energy is low, start moving. This makes sense, and it's why I always feel good after getting out for a morning run.

4?? Power Pose + Making Noise = State Change

Take the classic Superman or Wonder Woman pose, with your legs shoulder width apart, hands on hips, shoulders back and chest out. There's research that confirms this will give you a boosted sense of confidence and improvement in your self-esteem. Now add some noise to that - maybe recite affirmations, shout at a "woohoo!" or sing. The Power Pose levels up!

5?? Your 4 Archetypes = Your Dream Team

The 4 archetypes are parts of your personality: The Warrior; The Magician; The Lover; The Sovereign (King or Queen).

The Warrior is the one that goes in to battle, The Magician sees everything as a game, The Lover follows their passion and desire, and The Sovereign has the wisdom and insight of what it takes to win.

You can work with these archetypes individually, or bring them together as a team.

6?? Take Massive Action, Slay Your Dragons, and Measure Everything

While you're in state, make a decision, act, confront your fears, and then measure your results, optimise and go again.

Nice and short, but powerful.

7?? Give, give, and give Without Expectations

Generosity is a powerful force, and when done without expectations, the returns will surprise you.

I've experienced this myself, so it was good to hear it again, a good reminder.

8?? Beliefs Create Your Identity

What you believe, will determine who you are and what you will become.

If you want to change who you are and change your future, then the key is to change your beliefs, and as a result, this will change your identity.

9?? Identity is Your Brand, and it is the Most Powerful Influence in the World

This goes for business as well as individuals. People connect with your identity, your brand. Think Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela - they all had powerful and influential identities.

The same happens in every domain.

Taylor Swift comes to mind - her fans identify as "Swifties" - that's how powerful and influential her identity - her brand is.

?? Knowledge is not Power UNLESS it's Applied Using Action

This is an obvious one, but always a welcome reminder.

We all know people who collect knowledge, but what's the use of collecting knowledge unless you do something about it?

Ultimately all the knowledge in the world is useless, unless you can produce a result from applying it.

Take action.

This would be very interesting, Nikhil! I attended an in-person event decades ago, full-on everything - music, standing/sitting/standing, lots of yelling from audience… It would be fascinating to see how this translates all these years later into a virtual forum! ??

I've got to give this guy credit for longevity, at the very least. I'd be interested to hear from someone who attended one of his events 10 or more years ago and compare the content etc today.

Dare I mention the cassette tapes? Totally agree - he is not everyone's cup of tea, but he does do some transformational work. Item 6 is my big one - Take Massive Action, Slay Your Dragons, and Measure Everything

It is impressive. I do love the analogy from The Warrior; The Magician; The Lover; & The Sovereign. The concept is very clever. Haha I think I am too much Magician and not enough Warrior!
