10 Steps To "Up" Your Networking Game!

People frequently ask me, "Robert, how can I 'step-up my game' when it comes to Networking?"
Well, this post is for you (and anyone else who hasn't asked me, but might be interested in "upping their game").

Here are my "10 Commandments of Networking" to spice-up your networking results:
1. Define Your Goals: Determine what you hope to achieve through networking. Are you looking for job opportunities, mentorship, industry knowledge, or partnerships? Clarify and then focus on your goals.
2. Attend Industry Events: Attend conferences, seminars, trade shows, and other events related to your field of interest. These gatherings will allow you to meet professionals, exchange ideas & stay updated on industry trends.
3. Be Approachable and Friendly: Approach networking with a positive attitude. Smile, make eye contact, and show genuine interest in others. Be open to conversation and make an effort to listen actively.
4. Elevator Pitch: Prepare a concise and compelling elevator pitch that introduces yourself and highlights your key skills or interests. Practice your pitch to ensure it sounds natural and engaging.
5. Build a Diverse Network: Network with individuals from various industries, backgrounds, and positions. A diverse network can provide different perspectives, knowledge, and opportunities.

6. Follow Up: After meeting someone, make an effort to follow up within a few days. Send a personalized message expressing your gratitude for the conversation.
7. Utilize Social Media: LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter ( X), TikTok, & Facebook are powerful tools for enhancing your networking efforts. Connect & share valuable content & contribute your expertise to bring value.
8. Offer Value: Networking is not what you can gain, but also what you can offer. Share resources, provide advice, or make introductions. Offering value builds trust and strengthens your relationships.
9. Attend Informal Gatherings: In addition to formal events, informal gatherings, such as meetups, happy hours, or alumni events, can be excellent opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals in a relaxed setting.
10. Maintain Relationships: Networking is an ongoing process. Stay in touch with your connections by periodically reaching out, sharing interesting articles or opportunities, or meeting for coffee. There are lots of tools to help you stay "top-of-mind" to your network!
Remember, networking is about building relationships, so be authentic, respectful, and patient - this will help you build Trust.
