The World Health Organization has identified air pollution as one of the top ten avoidable causes of mortality. More than 90 percent of the world’s population breathes air that does not meet the World Health Organization’s air quality standards, increasing their risk of lung cancer and respiratory infections, as well as other conditions such as stroke, cardiovascular disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, among others.
