10 Skills that Are the New Currency for Job Seekers

Soft skills are personal attributes that enable individuals to interact effectively and harmoniously with others in the workplace. These skills cannot be measured or quantified and are often referred to as people skills, yet not many professionals focus on developing excellence in their soft skills.?

In this newsletter, I am focusing my discussion on the importance of soft skills in the Future of Work.?

In October 2020, LinkedIn launched a revolutionary interactive Career Explorer Tool. LinkedIn’s research showed that companies were focusing more on skills and lesser consideration on experience.?

“What we realized is that, in fact, there are tons of people out there in the world that have critical skills that aren’t being found. And when you look at why they’re not being found, it’s because they don’t have the traditional markers [that help] companies know how to find what they’re looking for.” - Said LinkedIn’s Chief Operating Officer Dan Shapero.

LinkedIn built a Skills Taxonomy, which was a fusion of human curation and machine learning, the end result was a Skills Graph. LinkedIn is continuously evolving Skills Graph with what they call “Skills-First Approach”, the new normal in the modern workforce.?

In my March newsletter titled “Hiring and Retaining Talent in 2023 and Beyond”, I wrote about the global outlook for the type of jobs and skills required to perform optimally is rapidly changing. My argument was based on the 2022 World Economic Forum’s report in Davos that mentioned that “by 2026, half of their revenue will come from products, services, or businesses that don’t yet exist.”?

?Frankly speaking, this can only be achieved with Skills, not with experience!?
