10 Simple Tips to improve your crawl rate and indexing

Google cannot rank your web pages if your website is not crawled and indexed regularly. Remember, Indexing is the first and a very important step.?

It is very important to ensure that most of your pages are indexed by Google.

Create Sitemap : Creating an XML sitemap and Submitting in Google Search console is the most basic and simple step to follow for improving your indexing. If you have more than 50,000 pages on your website consider creating multiple sitemaps and submitting them.?

For smaller sites there are a lot of free sitemap generator tools like XML sitemaps. If your website is huge, consider using tools like screaming frog to generate your sitemap.?

Fresh Content : Updating your website on a regular basis by adding new content in the form of Blogs, Industry updates or Articles can help to improve your indexing. Google loves to index such websites quickly and regularly.

Duplicate content : If you have duplicate content on your website, Google Bots might not crawl your pages at all. This will also impact your Google Ranking. You could also use premium tools like Siteliner to identify duplicate Pages. Even SEO tools like Ahrefs have a content duplication checker.

Robots blocking: Ensure that your entire website or certain pages that you want Google to rank are not Disallowed in Robots.txt file. You can check Google Search Console reports also for crawl errors due to robots.txt.

Orphan Pages : If your important pages are not properly connected using hyperlinks, Google might find it hard to discover them and Index them. Ensure that your pages are connected well and only a few clicks away from one another.?

Slow website : If your website is slow and takes more than 3-4 seconds to load, consider optimizing it. Google does not efficiently crawl and index slow websites. Use Google Pagespeed Insights Tool for suggestions on improving your speed.?

Unique Meta Tags - If you have duplicate meta tags on your website Google Bots might skip such pages. Ensure that all your pages have unique, well optimized meta tags.?

Technical issues related to server - If your server downtime is high or if it is very slow, Google might not index your website correctly. Choose a reliable server while hosting your website. You can find Errors related to Server in Google Search Console. You could also use tools like Uptime Robot to keep track of your server.?

Technical issues related to On-page - If you have tech issues on your website like a lot of broken links, broken images etc, crawl rate of your website would be low. Keep a track of these errors using Google Search console Or screaming Frog. Keep fixing such issues from time to time.

Building Backlinks : Consider Building Links to your important web pages from websites with Good domain authority. Google likes to index and rank web pages that have a good number of Backlinks.?
