"There is Elegance in Simplicity". "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” - Leonardo da Vinci.
Leadership, simply put, can be thought of as 'the ability to influence individuals or groups in a manner that encourages cooperation, collaboration, and action towards positive results.'
You can get there by adopting the following ten steps. We make an attempt here to cut through jargons, confusions, contradictions and misconceptions which are to be found in innumerable books and publications, and present a simple, memorable framework which will help you deliver greater successes for yourself and those who depend on you through more effective L-E-A-D-E-R-S-H-I-P.
- Learn, and keep learning.
- Encourage and inspire others to strive for excellence. Develop and communicate your Vision with credible passion.
- Apply your growing knowledge; "Act like a man of thought, Think like a man of action" (see Notes 1 and 2) ('man' is used here to imply both men and women).
- Develop an ethical, purpose-driven, self-directed team.
- Engage with the community at large; get respected and admired for your commitment to Environmental, Community and Social Responsibilities; seek out and embrace feedback as a powerful tool for self- improvement.
- Reward positive results and collaborative behaviour using good judgement, fairness, equity, and equanimity.
- Steer your ship with courage, integrity and decency through turbulent times.
- Harvest and harness the power of a "solution-seeking" culture.
- Innovate continuously with a laser sharp focus to deliver excellence in all areas of your 'business'.
- Plan and act tirelessly to make tomorrow better than today for those you lead, serve and follow.
