10 Simple Sales Tips To Help You Sell More!

10 Simple Sales Tips To Help You Sell More!

Sales should be simple. I've been working in sales for over 10 years and keeping it simple has been key to any success that I have had or any success that I have seen.

Quite simply here are my personal top 10 tips to be a more effective sales professional and ultimately sell more. I'm sure I've missed out some other great tips so please do add them in the comments box.

1) Start Early

Starting early has so many benefits. It allows you to settle in, get on top of your emails and workload all ready for the day ahead. You also stand a better chance of catching decision makers earlier. A lot of business owners and managers start early for the same reason, it helps get more done.

2) Cards On The Table

Personally I've always been a "cards on the table" sales person. I'm always open and honest about what I do and what I'm selling, as I find it builds better trust and allows better business to be done. Yes sometimes you'll have deadlines and offer special prices to get the deal in, but be honest with your customer. If you've built a good relationship with them and they can help you get the deal in they will, if they can't they'll be honest and at least you'll know where you stand.

3) Be Reliable

Customers are often made a lot of promises from a lot of different sales people, and it's the ones that delivery on those promises that win the sales. Make sure you only promise what you can achieve and deliver on that.

4) Manage Expectations

Managing expectations is crucial for both your customers and your managers. Your customers should know when you will deliver on what you say, so make sure you are realistic and honest with them. The same with your sales managers, be honest with your forecasts and pipelines and minimize any bad surprises.

5) Remember What You're Here For

If you're working in sales, chance are you have been hired to sell! When you're at work, make sure whatever you are doing is working towards achieving sales. Focus on what you are trying to achieve, plan and be conscious about how your time is spent. Value your working time, don't waste time on activities that you aren't confident will contribute to your sales target.

6) Give A Little

A lesson that social selling has taught us is that engagement is key. Our customers appreciate content, trials or demo's before committing to buying. Try and find ways to give a little to your customers, whether it's information, help with a problem, a freebie or demonstration, it will build a much stronger relationship between you and your prospect customers.

7) Be Resourceful

So many people will complain at a lack of resources, but do you actually lack resources or do you lack resourcefulness? Think about what you are able to do or achieve when you really want too, suddenly you find what you need to succeed. Whilst I'm sure we would all love the latest technology, the best data and CRM, the reality is that you can sell just as effectively without it.

8) Just Do It

How many times do sales people try and avoid some of the "not so fun" tasks? Cold calling, chasing up a prospect, following up a quote can all be avoidable tasks which is where the "just do it" mentality should come in. If you find yourself thinking too much before doing something, just do it. That one call you're avoiding could just be your biggest deal!

9) Network

Networking has never been easier and is the door to so many more sales opportunities. LinkedIn and other social media outlets provide the perfect platform to meet, connect and engage with more people than ever before. Each person you speak to is the door to lots more people. The more people you speak too, the more sales opportunities you will uncover.

10) Ask For The Close

It's the easiest and most simple bit of sales advice you can get, but just ask for the close! So many sales people are scared to asked for the sale (and if you don't think you're scared, think again!). How many times could you have closed the deal quicker if you just asked? Look at your pipeline and think about whether you have actually asked them for the sale, if you haven't, why not?

These tips have helped me personally and I hope one or two help you!
