This week, I want to dive into the topic of Switching Companies vs. Staying At Your Current Employer.
Many people feel stuck in their current jobs and wonder if they should wait for a promotion or switch to a different company. While there is no definitive answer to this question, one way to approach it is by using mindfulness and positivity. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the present moment, without judging them as good or bad. Positivity is the attitude of focusing on the positive aspects of your situation, rather than the negative ones. By using mindfulness and positivity, you can gain clarity and confidence in your career decisions.

Here are some steps to use mindfulness and positivity when considering a career change:
- First, acknowledge your current situation and how you feel about it. Be honest with yourself and don't suppress or deny your emotions. For example, you might say to yourself: "I have been working at this company for five years and I feel frustrated that I haven't been promoted yet. I feel like I deserve more recognition and responsibility for my work."
- Second, practice gratitude for what you have and what you have achieved. Instead of focusing on what you lack or what you want, appreciate what you already have and how far you have come. For example, you might say to yourself: "I am grateful for having a stable job that pays well and allows me to use my skills. I am proud of the projects I have completed and the relationships I have built with my colleagues and clients."
- Third, explore your options and opportunities. Rather than seeing your situation as a dead end or a trap, see it as a chance to grow and learn. Research other companies that interest you and see what they offer. Network with people who work in those companies or in similar roles. Ask for feedback from your manager or mentor on how you can improve your performance and advance your career. For example, you might say to yourself: "I am curious about what other opportunities are out there for me. I want to find out more about the culture and values of different companies and how they align with mine. I want to seek advice from people who have made successful career transitions and learn from their experiences."
- Fourth, weigh the pros and cons of staying or leaving. After gathering information and exploring your options, evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of each scenario. Consider not only the financial and practical aspects, but also the emotional and personal ones. How would staying or leaving affect your happiness, satisfaction, growth, and well-being? For example, you might say to yourself: "If I stay at this company, I might get a promotion eventually, but I might also lose motivation and interest in my work. If I leave this company, I might find a more rewarding and challenging job, but I might also face uncertainty and risk losing some of the perks and security I have now."
- Fifth, make a decision based on your values and goals. After weighing the pros and cons, choose the option that best aligns with your core values and long-term goals. Don't let fear or doubt stop you from pursuing what matters to you. Trust your intuition and be confident in your choice. For example, you might say to yourself: "I have decided to switch to a different company because I value growth and learning more than stability and comfort. I want to challenge myself and expand my horizons. I believe this is the best decision for me."

Using mindfulness and positivity can help you cope with the stress and uncertainty of making a career change. It can also help you find more meaning and purpose in your work. Remember that it's okay to switch companies rather than wait for a promotion at the same company if that's what makes you happy and fulfilled.
