The 10% Rule

I have been directly involved in the sales and marketing of products and services for over 2 decades.?
I moved from selling citrus drinks to quicksand, phones, play stations, and now knowledge products.
I have intentionally played strategic roles in heading growth and marketing for different industries in the last 4 years.
In all my years of working and teaching, one thing I have come to realize is
No one goes relatively broke, hungry, or becomes desolate selling something of value, you simply need to put it in the face of as many persons as possible (using the right words).
Context:
2019/2020, came with lots of freelancing (content creation, ghostwriting). My consulting workstation was shut down due to covid, walk-ins were paused and we needed to keep the lights on.
The beginning I must say was difficult. I wasn't getting gigs and my connections on platforms like Upwork kept getting exhausted.?
One day, I asked myself?"Why would anyone choose you over tens and hundreds of applications from different countries considering where you are?"?
I started scribbling words until I finally crafted what I would consider to date one of my best proposal intros. It got my attention.
But that wasn't enough, I knew I just couldn't stop sending one or two proposals weekly. I had to do more than most, so I applied what I call the 10% rule.?

Applying the 10% rule
Under this rule, I told myself, if I was going to get one interview, I would get at least 9 rejections.
It means I'd have to submit at least 20 proposals, for 2 interviews and then one contract.?
So for every NO, I responded with a "Next". No pressure, just moving on.
I got my first, then second, then third and the rest they say is history. The last job I did before leaving active freelancing, paid me $3,700.?
Back to you.
If you put value in front of as many people as you can using the right words, in no time, a % of them will buy from you. And when they do, you become richer, and with more money at your disposal, you can make your dreams come through.
First, I fixed my words to convince my prospects. Then I applied the 10% rule, leaving a 90% chance of failure knowing that just 10% is enough to compensate for my stress.
You should try it.

1 年Very insightful. There's no limit for anything we set our minds on if only we do not stop working. Every "No" should be followed by more "Next"s.

1 年Love this like mad Especially the 10% rule It goes a long way in seeing the glass other freelancers see as *"half-empty glass"* Haha
