10 reasons why your iOS App could be rejected by Apple

Are you looking forward to submitting your iOS product to the App Store? Almost every day, thousands of apps are submitted to the App Store for review & many of them get rejected in the first place due to various reasons. Apple has very strict & stringent guidelines around what gets live & published over their store. To ensure that Apple accepts your application, it lets you sign multiple agreements & ensures that you become familiar with technical, design & content related guidelines

Making a good application is itself a tedious task, getting it live is just another battle. If an app isn’t accepted in the first place, it could be resubmitted to the store after reviewing & working on the causes for rejection

We have compiled a brief list of reasons why your app could be rejected, once you know them, it will be easier for you to get it approved

Crashes

Unstable Apps that crash often are a big red flag for Apple. If any product is constantly crashing then there are huge chances that your app will be rejected in the first place. Ensuring the quality & stability of the application is the first thing that a product owner could do while submitting it to the store. Superior quality UI/UX and good quality of code & architecture helps a lot

Payment System

The most common explanation for the dismissal of features or any application feature is the use of another payment method. In accordance with the guidelines, a buying process is essential to provide users with functions: content and other user incentives. You will only get your app approved if you adhere to Apple's in-app buying scheme.

Lacks any major functionality

This could sound obvious, but before submitting it for approval, be sure to evaluate your application. If you don't have credentials or you find dead links, the reviewers couldn’t log in, there are high chances of getting your app rejected. They could even refuse your product if it uses sample material. It's okay to create fake user-profiles and add content so your app doesn't look empty. An app taking longer than 8-10 seconds to load from the splash screen becomes a low-hanging fruit that could be plucked easily, the reviewers probably would not approve it. In fact, if the app is hanging on the splash screen for too much time, that probably means that the quality of dev work is not up to the mark

Inappropriate and unnecessary use of ads

You can publish in-application advertisements to generate revenue in any application ecosystem, especially if you do not have an app generation model for direct revenues. But if you publish applications in your app, you must inform Apple because it wishes to examine the advertisements you publish so that the quality of your app is in accordance with the standard Apple guidelines just as the company reviews your application. Another thing is to inform Apple that the app uses the advertising identifier (IDFA) to serve ads if you publish ads. If your Apple advertising identifier is being used, and your app has no advertisements, it sends contradictory signals to the business, which means that your app is being rejected in compliance with Apple's own guidelines.

App identical to Website

Apps are pretty different from websites. Why do you need an app, otherwise? Apps are dynamic, they collect & process data and add real value to the end-user. An app as simple as a website could be rejected right away. Doing proper POC & ensuring that your application is providing some real value and has core features and functionalities helps in quick acceptance

Poor UX & UI

A good user experience is the heart & soul of any good product. No dev works deliberately bad on the UI side until it’s been handed over by their product team. The best initiative that you could take to get your app approved is working heavily on the UX/UI side & keeping it according to or close to the guidelines of Apple while creating UI. Considering user research, work-flows, mindmaps would help a lot

Compatibility & Consistency

Applications that experience some kind of compatibility problems with the latest systems are highly likely to be denied. Your product should work seamlessly across all screen sizes & devices. Any application that uselessly consumes or overheats the resources of a device could easily secure Apple's rejection.

Apple Sign-in

If your product offers to sign-up/log in using Google/Facebook/Twitter then it becomes obligatory to include the Apple Sign-In feature. Since in the guidelines it is expressly specified that apps with other methods must have the choice of Apple log-in. Using it upfront could save you from app rejection

App Duplication

Any product with little to zero originality has no place in the App Store. In this context, it can be argued that Apple is stricter, but there are no applications that allow it so to talk past the filter. Finally, it remains at Apple's discretion to decide whether or not a submitted app is a duplicate product. Therefore, when planning and developing your app concept, it is best to opt for originality as much as possible. It won't hurt to navigate the App Store and to pursue applications that share the niche that you have chosen to do much testing.

Inaccurate Description or Screenshots

App store description & screenshots should always be up to the mark in the first place. It should deliver the value proposition of your product clearly. Text overlays over images & improper description remain a constant reason for good apps being rejected from the App store. Doing a little more homework by compiling your app description & screenshots could save you from rejection
