10 Questions in 10 Minutes with Ivana Hayman
Shaw Reynolds Lawyers
A Specialist Development, Local Government, Environment and Planning Law Firm
What's been the highlight of your year so far?
Growing and challenging myself as a junior solicitor and taking part in Court work, directions hearings and assisting in section 34 Conciliation Conferences, for example.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
It's important to have the ability to accept feedback from others, but equally you must also have the ability to filter that feedback and make your own decisions about which feedback works best for you. Not all feedback is treated equally.
What's your favourite kind of weather?
Anything with sunshine, I'm like a lizard, I love lapping up the sun.
What's something new you've learned recently?
Pursuant to the State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Code) 2008 (Exempt and Complying Code) if you have a development application for subdivision under assessment, you are allowed to make a boundary adjustment to property, without the need to obtain separate consent for the adjustment as it may be classified as exempt development. This exemption is only in circumstances where the criteria under section 2.75 of the Exempt and Complying Code is satisfied. For example, "if the adjustment will not result in a change in the area of any lot by more than 10%", i.e., an adjustment and change in area of simply 11% will require development approval.
What are you grateful for?
To work with a group of remarkably intelligent and kind people.
