10 questions for Alexandra M?ck

In our "10 questions ..." series, employees from different areas of the company share insights into their everyday work. Today, Alexandra M?ck tells us what drives her as team leader Corporate Controlling and what makes work at Storopack special for her.

1. Tell us about your job at Storopack. 

I’ve been with Storopack since January 2001 and have been working in Corporate Controlling in Metzingen for 22 years now. However, my area of responsibility and my tasks have changed and developed again and again. My current tasks can be divided into three areas. Firstly, from a "traditional Controlling" perspective, I support five of our European Packaging Business Units (UK, Benelux, France, Spain and Italy). Secondly, as a so-called system controller, I am responsible worldwide for the support and further development of the reporting, analysis and planning systems. And thirdly, I took over as team leader in Corporate Controlling in August 2021

2. What does a typical working day look like?

There is no such thing as a typical working day. In Controlling, we prepare the monthly group reporting and other analyses and calculations. The annual group budget takes up a lot of time. In doing so, we always try to improve and further develop what is already in place. Apart from that, I'm in a lot of different meetings (online and live), sometimes also give trainings, especially for our sales analysis tools, and there are always projects I'm involved in, such as the S/4 HANA project. 

3. What do you particularly like about your role? 

What I like about my role is that I get to work with lots of people in different countries and positions. I also like the fact that my area of responsibility is broad. 

4. What drives you to work in your area of responsibility?

What drives me is to understand the needs of my and our internal "customers" for figures, analyses, reports and tools better and better to be able to help and support them. My claim is to help them to help themselves and to provide the appropriate tools for this. 

5. What qualities do you most often need at work and why?

To better understand the needs of my internal "customers", it is necessary to listen but also to try to see things from their point of view and also to read or listen between the lines sometimes and to think outside the box. 

6. What excites you most about Storopack as an employer?

What appeals to me most about Storopack is that I can organize myself and my work, that the job is varied, that Storopack is an international company, but also that there are meetings and events where you can get to know colleagues from other locations and other countries personally.

7. If you had to describe Storopack in three words, which would it be?

Family-run company, tradition, international.

8. What advice would you give young professionals in your job? 

No matter what job you start, watch well, listen well, try to understand the context and background for certain work processes, but then find your own way and style. 

9. What can you definitely not go without in your work day?

Definitely not on my coffee in the morning right after I turned on my notebook. 

10. What hobbies / things do you like to do that make you YOU?

I like to spend time with my family and friends, I like to be outside, I love the sea but also like the mountains very much, and I like to read.
