NTT deploys private 5G network in Las Vegas with Celona

#NTT Ltd., a leading global IT infrastructure and services company, announced a?Private 5G (P5G)?network expansion for the City of Las Vegas. The project involves deploying and provisioning NTT's P5G to build the most extensive private network in the United States.

The goal is for the network to serve as an open platform available to local businesses, government, and educational institutions for deploying innovative solutions that enrich the lives of citizens and visitors to Las Vegas. NTT is working with partners to more than double the number of network access points (APs) throughout Las Vegas.?

Unlike most Citizens Broadband Radio Spectrum (#CBRS) deployments, which are in-building or industrial, this network extends across public spaces. It's also the first network of its size to be open to third-party APs and end-user devices. It puts Las Vegas well on the path to becoming a technology hub for citizens and organizations within the city limits.

Nestlé, #Ericsson, and communication service providers #Claro and #Embratel are collaborating to deploy a private 5G network to transform how Nestle produces and delivers goods.

This state-of-the-art solution is also a world first for #Nestlé. It signals the move from an automated to an autonomous factory – a transformation that aligns with Nestle's Industry 4.0 aspirations.

5G's high data throughput and low latency will make a significant difference to Nestlé's industrial environment by transforming their ways of working – further building on the company's smart factory focus and enhancing productivity, efficiency, and workplace safety.?

The project utilizes frequencies of experimental use licensed by Claro. The past few years have seen Nestlé take advantage of emerging technologies, such as robotics, automation, artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML), virtual reality, and the operation of self-driving vehicles (AGV).?

With the private 5G standalone network in place, its entire digital ecosystem will become even more reliable and comprehensive, enabling new innovative use cases. In addition, this new solution serves as an example for other manufacturers looking to embrace the smart factory digital transformation.

The private and closed cellular network will also strengthen network security, with sensitive data remaining exclusively on the factory's local network.

Nokia and MEXT, the Turkish Employers' Association of Metal Industries Technology Center, announced that they are partnering to advance the digital transformation of the Turkish industrial sector and enable the local ecosystem to work jointly on?5G private wireless?innovation.?

#Nokia will deploy its 5G private wireless Digital Automation Cloud (DAC) solution at the MEXT Technology Center, connecting more than ten manufacturing use cases on display and adding more.

#MEXT operates one of the world's largest and most comprehensive digital transformation and capability-building centers. Located in Istanbul, Atasehir, it supports Turkish industrial companies along their digital transformation journey towards Industry 4.0. The Technology Center includes an ecosystem of more than 50 globally recognized technology providers, universities, and institutions. Nokia will become a partner of MEXT and collaborate within this ecosystem, enabling 5G technology experience in the industrial context, although 5G is not currently commercially available in Turkey.

The U.S. Department of Defense has tapped Verizon to install and maintain a?private 5G network?located in an aircraft maintenance hangar at a joint military base in Hawaii.

The Tranche 2 contract award given to #Verizon is worth $11.5 million. On the network constructed under the award, personnel stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickham (JBPHH) will be able to utilize high-speed, high-bandwidth, and low-latency?5G benefits, the New York City-based company said Thursday.

#MTN is building?private 5G networks?for 14 companies in the #mining and #port sectors in South Africa. The private 5G networks will provide the firms with guaranteed operational coverage and capacity. In addition to providing data and voice services, 5G private networks would support cloud computing, improved cybersecurity, and unified communications.

#Chunghwa Telecom, a Taiwan-based mobile operator, plans to deploy an open RAN-based private 5G network in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan. The private 5G network will operate in the 4.4-5 GHz frequency band. As per Chunghwa Telecom, this project is a test bed to validate open RAN-based solutions in private network deployments and potentially streamline its own 5G enterprise offering.

It will test the stability and compatibility of locally produced open RAN cell equipment. Chunghwa Telecom noted that the results of such tests would be a reference for local RAN vendors' equipment to optimize their products. In addition, the company plans to set up an 'intelligent operation center' to support data collection, conversion, and transfers needed to develop 5G applications".

Samsung to deploy private 5G network solutions to Korea’s publicprivate sectors

Samsung Electronics was selected to provide a diverse selection of its 5G solutions to five government agencies and private institutions in Korea. This project is part of the government initiative to advance the country's private 5G ecosystem, allowing non-telecom operators to build and operate 5G networks using 4.7GHz and 28GHz — which are dedicated frequency bands for private 5G networks in Korea.

In the public sector, #Samsung will collaborate with three major government agencies to help them ensure workplace safety and efficiency by applying smart, AI-enabled connectivity solutions:

  • Korea Electric Power Corporation, the largest electric utility in Korea, plans to deploy #smartgrid technologies and build digital twins to enhance safety and efficiency in the workplace.?
  • Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, a government agency that manages and supports industrial complexes, will deploy a 5G-driven digital safety platform at various work sites.
  • Korea Water Resources Corporation, a government agency for comprehensive water resource management, will build digital twins — virtual models of real-world river basins — to precisely visualize water flow and predict water-related hazards such as flood damages.?

The warehouse will also become a showcase for warehouse automation and Industry 4.0 #IoT capabilities, with recent advances in warehouse #automation, including robots, #drones, and automated forklifts enabled by private 4G/5G.

Vodafone and Bayer deploy 5G campus network inside German greenhouse

#Vodafone and Bayer deployed a pilot private 5G network in a greenhouse at the Monheim site in Germany. The 5G network and IT infrastructure will cover an area of around 11,000 square meters and enable Bayer researchers in insecticide research to test new technologies more efficiently and quickly.

#Bayer will gain new knowledge about plant health quickly with the help of fully autonomous robots, digital images, and videos evaluated by #AI (computer vision) and other new data collection and analysis methods. Based on automated processes and real-time processing of large amounts of data, new innovative solutions can be developed in the laboratory, #greenhouse, production, and field to make industry and #agriculture even more sustainable.
