As of December 2024, in the past month 47% of Americans age 12+ have listened to a podcast. Isn’t that crazy to think about? Almost half of Americans over the age of twelve last month listened to a podcast. That’s the highest number of active podcast listeners ever recorded. Needless to say, 2025 will be the year of the podcast. We’re set to surpass every projection for finances and listener data, so what can you do as a podcaster to prepare for what’s coming and not get lost in the shuffle?
In this episode we’re talking about my 10 predictions for podcasts in 2025. Ranging on everything from episode length to AI to YouTube, we’ll cover everything I think is going to change podcasting in the next year to help you succeed and make money with your podcast.

Prediction #1: YouTube (The Next Major Podcasting Platform)
If you haven’t started uploading your podcast to YouTube, now is the time. With Google Podcasts officially shutting down in April 2024 and merging with YouTube, the shift is already happening. YouTube isn’t just a video platform anymore—it’s becoming the next major platform for podcast discovery and consumption.
Here’s why you need a YouTube channel for your podcast:
Quick Tip: Don’t get too caught up about creating a full video production. You can start by uploading your podcast audio with a simple graphic. Consistency is more important than perfection.
Prediction #2: Video Podcasts
Video content is becoming more important across all platforms (especially Spotify). While I still recommend mastering your audio quality first, adding a video component can:
If you have the resources, start experimenting with video. But remember, focus on progress over perfection.
Prediction #3: Micro-Podcast Episodes
In 2025, expect to see more podcasts with episodes under 30 minutes. Listeners are looking for quick, actionable content they can consume on the go.
Why shorter episodes work:
Try trimming down episodes in post-production or creating mini-series if you're having trouble making shorter episodes.
Prediction #4: Interactive and In-Person Experiences
Listeners want more than just passive content, they're craving community and engagement. In 2025, we’ll see more:
Think about ways to bring your audience together, whether through virtual meetups or interactive elements in your episodes.
Prediction #5: Niche and Edutainment
As the podcast industry continues to grow the more important it is for podcasters to create content that listeners are actually looking for. Make sure your content is speaking directly to a listener and what they're looking for in a podcast.
For example, instead of a general dating podcast, niche down to a show for divorced women in their 40s navigating online dating.
Why niching down works:
Get specific and watch your audience grow.
Prediction #6: Programmatic Sponsorships
Programmatic ads—those dynamic ads inserted into your podcast—will become more accessible to podcasters at all levels.
Think of them as YouTube ads but for your podcast. These ads:
Start paying attention to your download numbers and engagement rates so you can pitch your show to potential sponsors.
Prediction #7: Podcast Platforms Will Compete for Creators
Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, and YouTube will be competing harder than ever to get creators on their platforms.
Expect more exclusive deals, creator rewards, and monetization options.
Action Step: Know where your listeners are and prioritize that platform. Use your hosting analytics to guide you.
Prediction #8: Data-Driven Content and Improved Analytics
For too long, podcasters have relied solely on download numbers. In 2025, that’s going to change.
Expect to see:
This data will help you make smarter decisions about your podcast strategy.
Prediction #9: Subscriber and Exclusive Content
Paid subscriptions are becoming more popular across platforms like Apple Podcasts and Patreon.
Consider offering:
It’s not just about making money—it’s about creating a better experience for your listeners.
Prediction #10: AI for Podcasters and Listeners
AI isn’t going anywhere. In fact, it’s becoming an essential tool for podcasters.
There are endless ways AI can help you podcast, including:
Remember: AI won’t replace you—but people who use AI will.
