#10 Personal Growth Hacks

#10 Personal Growth Hacks

If you're serious about building your career, you should read this.

Secret - It has nothing to do with your education/degree/skill/intelligence.

When you study in any university/school, you live and breathe in a hypothetical world.

The moment you pass out and start your journey with a quest to build your career, you transit from a hypothetical world to the real world, which is completely different than you ever imagined.

Based on my 13+ years of experience, I have compiled the top 10 personal growth hacks/qualities/frameworks which you should develop to thrive in the real world no matter which industry you end up working with.

1. Learn "how" to think instead of "what" to think. Believe me, the pace of the evolution of your thought process will decide your growth. To check if your thought process is evolving OR not, just ask a simple question to yourself on your every birth-day, Am I the same person I was last year? Do things affect me today which used to affect me a year ago? If the answer is YES, then you are not growing in the real sense.

2. Your peers/colleagues are your mentors. Identify the fastest growing peers/colleagues and observe their growth. Talk to them. Ask them bold questions. How can I grow like you faster? Seek for help.

3. Envy qualities/thought process of your peers who are outperforming, instead of their salary. Envying their salary won't get you growth, but if you envy their qualities/thought process, your growth is inevitable.

4. Focus, Persistence, and Patience are 3 most important factors of success in the order. Get Rich Faster is a scam. There is nothing like an overnight success. Everything comes in a life with a Compound Interest. Warren Buffett started investing when he was 10 years old and didn't even become a billionaire until he was 50 years old. In fact, he built 99% of his net worth after his 50th birthday.

5. Develop an ownership mindset. Have Skin in the game. Go above and beyond. Taking 100% Accountability and Ownership of your job (regardless of the outcome of your job) will only take you to the next level. Expecting more responsibilities without taking 100% Accountability and Ownership of your job is like a day-dreaming, which is not possible in reality and often leads to disappointment. Risk and mistakes are inevitable in the path of Accountability and Ownership. Don't be afraid to take risks or make mistakes. It’s OK to say, “I have tried something new, but it didn't work and I have learned a lesson”. Move on. Make new mistakes. Do not repeat the same mistakes. My fav one is this - “Own an area of business so completely that your boss forgets that it’s even there.” - Paras Chopra

6. Do not work to praise people. Regardless of the industry you work in, do not work to praise your peers/boss/customers/clients. Just do your job with 100% commitment and rest will fall into place.

7. Criticization/Feedback - Whether you will be self employed OR working for an organization, you will inevitably receive the feedback/criticism in every stage of your career. There are two types of Criticizations. Healthy and Attack. Take healthy Criticization as a serious feedback because someone is putting an effort to share feedback and genuinely wants to help you to grow. Ignore the criticism which is an attack. My fav - “Feedback is a gift. Always receive it with warmth and zero offense. You may or may not use it. It’s a choice. But reacting negatively on a feedback will shut that person forever and stop a good channel. You rarely see useless feedback come from people better than you.” - Kunal Shah

8. Think of money as a by-product.?

9. Showing up on-time in the meeting and responding to emails quickly will set you apart from the crowd.

10. Gossips are cheap. Ideas are expensive. Distance yourself from the people who love to gossip. Specifically, water cooler discussions happen in your cafeteria. Do avoid people who love to gossip. Hang around people who love to discuss ideas and share knowledge. You will be hanging around with all different types of people. Choose positivity over negativity.
