Welcome back! It's great to see your commitment to putting in the practice and making positive changes in your life. Today, we're going to delve into the topic of motivation and the vital importance of nurturing it. When we chase our goals and lead high-performing lifestyles, our motivation often gets put to the test. We find ourselves repeating the same tasks and training routines over and over again, which can be challenging.
Constantly pushing our limits and stretching ourselves can be fatiguing. If we haven't taken care of our motivation, it's only natural that it will start to wane. Even when things seem to be going well on the surface, without nurturing our motivation, we can find ourselves teetering towards apathy, burnout, or other states where we feel like we have to do things rather than wanting to.
While it may be acceptable for some individuals, if we want to perform at our best consistently (not every single day, as that would be unrealistic), and experience flow regularly, we need to prioritize the nurturing of our motivation. Time and time again, I encounter people who express a lack of motivation compared to what they had before. They remain committed and dedicated to achieving their goals, but the spark, joy, and fun of motivation seem to be missing.
So, I ask them, "What have you done to care for your motivation? How have you nurtured it, much like you would care for a child?" Initially, the question may seem perplexing, but upon reflection, it raises important considerations. How can we actively nurture our motivation? How can we affirm ourselves, incentivise our progress, and periodically check in to understand our motivational needs?
Therefore, my challenge to you today is to begin nurturing your motivation. Before every task you tackle today, ask yourself, "On a scale of 1 to 10, what is my current motivation level?" Is it a 6, a 7, or perhaps an 8? Once you have identified your level, ask yourself, "What can I do right now to elevate it from a 6 to a 7, or from an 8 to a 9, or from a 9 to a perfect 10?"
