The Employment (Amendment) Bill 2022 was re-tabled for First Reading before the Parliament of Uganda on 21 September 2022. The Bill seeks to amend the Employment Act 2006. Some of the highlights of the Bill are the protection of domestic workers and casual employees, repatriation, protection of working breastfeeding mothers from discrimination, severance pay, protection from sexual harassment and other forms of abuse, migrant workers, recruitment agencies and outsourcing.?Continue reading

Kenya has specific anti-counterfeiting legislation, the Anti-Counterfeiting Act No. 13 of 2008, as well as a dedicated anti-counterfeiting body, the Anti-Counterfeiting Authority (ACA). Earlier this year, Kenya introduced what has been dubbed a ‘dual registration’ system. What this means is that an IP owner who imports goods into Kenya will be required to register its IP rights separately with the ACA – it is worth noting that, although the Kenyan authorities use the term intellectual property rights (IPRs), the assumption has been that this was primarily about trade marks. 2 年DR CONGO In application of the law n°22/022 of June 17, 2022 on the empowerment of the Government, the President of the Republic proceeded to the signature of the Ordinance-law n°22/030 of September 08, 2022 relating to the promotion of the entrepreneurship and the startups. The signing of this ordinance-law is beneficial for the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the DRC. It consists of 122 articles divided into four chapters. It contains several major and innovative provisions, including - Clearer definitions, including the notions of SMEs, Startups, or Incubators; - The establishment of a solid framework of institutional support at all levels of the State; - The clarification of the status of "entrepreneur" and the consideration of social entrepreneurship; - The establishment of a National Entrepreneurship Day (JNE); - The establishment of several advantages and facilities in favor of SMEs, startups and support structures (in terms of taxation, access to markets and access to funding); - The establishment of a system of labeling of Startups; - Support for SMEs and startups in terms of capacity building, opportunity seeking and taxation; - The institution of the offence of illegal interest taking; etc.
