10 non-urgent but important things to do as we welcome new year...

As we adieu 2018 and ready to welcome 2019, it's excellent time to address few important things that we may keep deferring due to one or other reason. These things are certainly not urgent ones but were always in our wish list.

Here is list of 10 such things (in no specific order) that has been compiled basis interaction w/ many individuals and hope that many of us will found them useful:

  1. Set targets for new year that you aim to achieve...failure to plan is planing to fail.
  2. Buying book(s) that you're going to read in upcoming year...and if you're not fond of reading books then plan to start reading as that really goes long way. One book which I highly recommend is Crucial Conversations as this not only helps in business or professional world but in personal lives too
  3. List of things that you're NOT going to do...this helps you in having more time for the things that matter
  4. Take back-up of photos from your smart phone/tablet/camera and preferably arrange them in chronological order for quick access in future. My advise is to name folder as YYYYMMDD-<EventName> so that all folder(s) appear in desired order
  5. Manage your desk/drawer(s), either at work or home, by removing redundant things and make it tidy. I am sure you'll find various important document(s) which you're looking for :-)
  6. Scan and store important frequently used documents online w/ a strong password so that you can readily access them while you're on move
  7. Take back-up of your emails so that you can restore them in case of any issues
  8. Update your LinkedIn profile along-with new skills, certifications, achievements that you have acquired during the year
  9. Annual health check-ups - A healthy mind lives in a healthy body and we perform at best when we're fully healthy. Annual health check-ups are important to assess if anything requires special attention in upcoming year.
  10. Last but not least...spend quality time with your family and friends and especially the ones whom you couldn't meet for a while

Hope this helps and would appreciate your feedback on same.

Wish you a very happy and prosperous new year!

Nice useful tips Manoj Jain. Another important aspect which I started doing in last couple of years is spend atleast 10% of time every week/month on building your online profile both professionally and personally to reflect who you are as it enables to connect with like minded people
