A 10 minute recap of Apple's WWDC Keynote
Thanks to The Verge for a quick recap of Apple's annual developer conference keynote. You can draw your own conclusions by watching here.
Spoiler Alert: it's a giant yawn even after The Verge cuts it down to 10 minutes.
Notable mentions like improvements to Apple Photos and Maps are just me too offerings of what Google is already doing. The object and scene recognition they announced for photos was first introduced at Google I/O 2015 over a year ago.
Some other underwhelming announcements: OS X is now MacOS. Apple Watch apps will now respond right away (not making that up, check the "sweet" demo at 00:42 of the video). Your clipboard transfers from your phone to your Mac. And...wait for it...there is a shortcut to find gas stations while navigating in Maps.
I will admit that I am biased and a big Google fan, but this keynote made me sad and left me yearning for the good old days when the two tech giants were one-upping each other with legitimately new products and features.
Not a fan of secure operating systems, I see. APFS is fairly huge and way past due. Siri on macOS is also huge - especially now that we can code against it. Map extensions will prove to be huge as well.
Innovating AI projects with product development expertise
8 å¹´Siri API access is the big game changer. Right now startups around the world are fighting to create chatbots to automate tasks, but why type when you can talk? These are early days but the next frontier is how we interact with information without a visual interface.
