There's so much development in this industry: time for a short deep-dive into some of the current metaverse platforms and players.
The metaverse is a virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality, and the internet. It is a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality, and the internet. In short, the metaverse is the virtual world we all live in, and it's rapidly growing and evolving.
Here are 10 metaverse platforms and applications, new and older, that here to try out:
- Roblox: This is a platform that allows users to create and play games with others online. It has a large and active community of creators and players of the age between 7 and 13.
- VR Chat: This is a virtual reality social platform that allows users to chat and interact with others in immersive virtual environments. In VRChat players play mostly through a virtual headset and where you, as a player, can integrate your universal Ready Player Me avatar.
- Second Life: This is one of the oldest and most well-known virtual worlds. It allows users to create their own avatars, explore virtual landscapes, and interact with others in a variety of activities.
- Minecraft: This is a popular sandbox video game that allows players to build and explore virtual worlds. It has a massive player base and is popular among all ages.
- AltspaceVR: This is a virtual reality social platform that allows users to attend events, watch movies, and socialize with others in virtual reality. This platform, build by Microsoft, has been around for quite some time. Despite the fine gameplay, it's onboarding is kind of complex and only accessible with a microsoft account.

- VR MMOs: These are massive multiplayer online games that are played in virtual reality. Some popular examples include OrbusVR and VR World Online.
- Decentraland: This is a decentralized virtual reality platform that allows users to create, experience, and monetize content and applications. This 'game' gained lots of hype early 2022. Many people got in and bought land, however, since the metaverse is meant for a larger purpose than virtual real-estate, daily number of users have dropped significantly.
- Streaming platforms: These platforms offer you as a creator, brand or next-gen marketing agency to stream your own white-label web3 metaverse experience from your channels, to anyone on any device. Examples here are Journee and YOM.
- Virtual Reality Dating: There are a number of virtual reality dating platforms that allow users to meet and interact with others in virtual reality environments. Some popular examples include VR Dates and VR Love. Imagine your opening line in a virtual world where you're not limited to text, emoji's, voice or video, but where you instantly could feel and sense each other.
Overall, the metaverse is not limited to only virtual platforms or worlds. The metaverse is a whole universe, where reality is re-shaped by the imagination of human beings, where virtual worlds are even more integrated in our physical lives than ever before.
