10 Marketing Techniques That Are As Dead As Disco
10 Marketing Strategies That Are As Dead As Disco
In today’s digitized and sophisticated marketplace, people have endless options and the ability to test, review and compare products and services before they make any buying decision. In developing a marketing strategy, you need to understand that your target market has more choices than ever before. Marketing strategies that are authentic and believable, backed up with facts are the ones seeing success these days.
Here are some of the most common mistakes I see when reviewing web sites for my clients.
- Out Right Bold Face Lies. Consumers used to be gullible and you could drive them right down the sales funnel with outlandish claims. Today consumers can right through half-truths and form over substance. Keep it real and they will believe it.
- If you are still telemarketing I probably cannot help you. Just kidding but seriously just don’t do it.
- Stop sending out Spam. Your email list is still a valuable asset but should be treated with respect and only used to deliver targeted, segmented, customized messages and promotions.
- Direct Mail. Unless you know every single person on that mailing list and their buying habits I would stay away from this one. Direct Mail can still return results however the ROI compared to digital marketing has nothing to do with each other.
- Marketing with your gut rarely works. When we do A/B testing the Ad that everyone thought was going to “kill it” rarely does. Its always the sleeper Ad that knocks it out of the park. Don’t out think your market let them tell you what works. Create lots of Ad’s and test them all.
- Bombarding your audience with constant ads to buy your product wares them out. Try and connect with your audience. Run contest’s, pick random winners of “something”, start a conversation with your customers.
- Hiding your company information does not build trust or loyalty. Be available to your customers. Many consumers want to know you are a real company before making a transaction or signing up for a service. Give them options to reach you and respond in a personal manner.
- No Fake Reviews. Your business needs legitimate 3rd party validation. Put a review program in place and reward your employees who accumulate the most real quality reviews.
- Thinking that keyword stuffing is still getting you juice with google? It’s not. Search engines know good content from bad today. To achieve search results on the first page of google you need quality content. It may be expensive to develop but it will pay big dividends down the road.
- Trying to be the first listing in the phone book is a recipe for disaster unless your target market is 70+.
Navigating today's digital landscape is challenging but very rewarding once you hit upon the right mix of campaigns. Understanding the trends and using them to grow your business should be an objective.
