Conducting a personal review of the year can be a useful exercise to offer valuable insights and chart a direction for the next 365 days.
Here are some questions to help you ponder what has been, so you might anticipate what might be.
You might want to answer one, two or all of them.
1. What were my most meaningful personal experiences this year, and how have they impacted my life and perspectives?
Has anything happened this year to significantly (re)shape your beliefs, values, and outlook on life.
2. How have my relationships evolved over the year, and what have I learned about myself through these interactions?
Think about relationships in your personal and professional worlds. How have you evolved with those you live with and love or work with and lead?
3. What habits or routines have I developed this year, and how have they impacted my life?
Evaluate the habits you’ve formed this year. Consider how these habits have affected your health, happiness, performance and wellbeing. You might also want to identify habits to change or cultivate in the coming year.
4. When and how did I step out of my comfort zone this year, and what did I learn from these experiences?
Reflect on instances where you challenged yourself or faced your fears. Consider what these experiences taught you and how they’ve contributed to your personal growth.
5. If you could have your time over again this year, what would you do differently?
For most of the things you're thinking about, you'll likely have your time again - the same kind of issues, same kind of dramas with people will tend to crop up over and over again. The question is - will you learn from them?
6. If I could sum up this year in a single word, theme or lesson, what would it be, and how will this influence my goals for the next year?
By trying to distill the essence of the year into a single word, theme or lesson, it’s a way of making sense of the year’s events and understanding how this ‘big picture’ perspective can guide your thinking for 2024.
How do you go about reviewing your year? What questions have you found useful?
