LinkedIn now has 900,000,000 members.
It used to be where people went to find jobs. It’s so much more than that now.
Yes, you can find jobs there. It’s also where you build your network, win new business, and grow your personal brand.
Here’s 10 valuable tips to help you in 2023 from a Northern Ireland business owner Niraj Kapur who was award the prestigious LinkedIn Top Voice award from LinkedIn HQ.
1.Your headline banner matters
Don’t just have a blank banner or your company logo. Tell people how you help them and have an easy way for them to contact you.
2. About Section
The headline banner is the first thing people see. The About section is the first thing people read in detail. Avoid cliches like “I’m a people person” or “I’m passionate about…” Avoid sounding too corporate either. Tell people how you help them. Take them on a journey.
3. Testimonials Matter
When you book a holiday, you ask family and friends for advice or check out reviews on Tripadvisor. When you buy from Amazon, you check out reviews. Social proof matters. When you do great work for anyone, ask for a LinkedIn recommendation.
4. Have a headline on every post
People are inundated all day long with notifications, WhatsApp, texts, email, meetings, and meetings about meetings. Make life easier and help people reduce their scrolling by having a strong headline.

5. Hashtags
3-5 hashtags are all that is needed on each post to help people find you. Anything more or less has little effect. #NorthernIreland #Salestraining #Belfast #linkedinlearning #linkedinfamily
6. Consistency Rocks
You don’t have to be the most intelligent or the most brilliant, I’m certainly not. I do always show up especially when I don’t feel like it. Consistency helps you achieve more than doing things now and again. Posting doesn’t have to be daily; it should be at least 3 times a week.
7. Vary your Posts
There’s video, PDFs, polls, text-only posts and text with pictures, make use of all the different formats to make it interesting. Present your posts in a way that’s easy to read. Simpler is always better and pack your posts with value.
8. Supporting others
The more you help others, the more you achieve. Like and comment on other people’s post, with at least 5 words or more. That helps you get noticed and helps the other person get noticed. Anything less than 5 words has little effect.
9. Your Network Matters
Don’t just follow the big players. I connect with secretaries, HR and marketing, because they know people you don’t and if they like what you have to say, they often recommend you to others.
10. Tell Personal stories
Personals stories will help you grow your brand faster than a business post. The Pictures of me walking in the Northern Ireland countryside with Game of Thrones locations are adored by audiences worldwide. Talking about struggles I’ve overcome with online dating and mental health made me go viral.?The money I raised for charities makes me more human and likeable.
