10 Keys to Have High Energy during These Turbulent Times

The only to navigate the turbulent times we live in is through high energy. High energy is so vital to enjoy the fullness of life and all it has to offer. There are some keys to having high energy and sustaining over a long period of time. Here are the 10 keys to have high energy and sustain it over the long haul.

Have a passion for life – Of course it is difficult to be optimistic about life when things are bleak. However if we have passion for life we will feel happier. Most people say find your passion and you will attain bliss. In my opinion the first step towards high energy is to love your life and have a passion for life itself. Just view life as a fabulous gift as it is indeed and when you think that you have this opportunity to live will bring passion to your days. High energy will be the result of placing a high value on your life and considering it as a great opportunity to bring the fullness of your talent.

Connect to your purpose – You can only find meaning in life if you are totally enthusiastic about your life. Get excited about your life. I love the way Victor Frankl expressed this in his book “Man’s Search for Meaning.” We shouldn’t ask what we want out of life instead we should ask what life wants out of us. Life is asking each of us a question and it is our responsibility to answer that call. Identify your unique talent and see how you can bring that talent to your work and to the world at large. Once you connect to your purpose energy will flow. Even if you are feeling down on some days once you reconnect to your purpose you will feel great. As they say in times like these it is always good to remember there have always been times like these.

Take care of yourself physically – This is obvious but repeating that when you take care of your physical body you will have high energy. You can exercise at any time of the day that feels right for you. If you are not a morning person take time from noon till 12:30 pm to walk before lunch or do some exercises in the confines of your home. Remember when there is a burning why then the how won’t matter. There are no rules in life and if you don’t want to wake up early that’s fine but there is enough time for all of us to devote 15-30 min daily for movement. A simple walk is enough to re-energize our spirits or doing some jumping jacks also helps.

Get adequate sleep – There are so many books coming out that we need to sleep. I thought we all knew this already. Usually the simplest things are the ones that need repetition. We all understand that we do need to burn the midnight oil sometimes in the pressure of a deadline or when there is an exam but this should be an exception rather than the rule. Based on my study of biographies of leaders from history all of them usually slept at a reasonable hour and woke up early. Some of them like Churchill took a power nap. Bottom line is do anything that works for you but when you do get 7-8 hours of good sleep you just feel full of life and a lot of the problems do seem smaller. Especially in turbulent times it is imperative to be self-compassionate and give our body the rest it requires to function effectively.

Fuel your Inspiration – These are the times we really need to stay inspired about our lives and really understand what we want to stand for. There are many avenues there which can help us bring our best to the forefront. However in order to bring your best you need to be inspired. You can inspire others or even members of your family only if you are inspired. Some of the ideas to stay inspired are exercise, writing in a journal, reading inspirational books, listening to something inspirational and staying connected with people you truly adore. When you are inspired you have high energy.

Stay Hydrated – It has been well established that if you drink a lot of water you generally have high energy. So 2-3 glasses of water when you get up in the morning and have one glass for every hour you are awake. One thing that works for me is to have a glass of cold water when I am feeling a little less energetic. Having water does wonders to your energy levels.

Love people – When you love people and don’t carry any grudges you automatically feel good and energetic. People come in all ways and there is no perfect person. Accept everyone as they are and you will feel better about yourself. This maybe a good time to completely close all past hurts and forgive everyone who you think has hurt you. The more important thing is to forgive yourself for everything as well. As soon as you forgive and let go of the past your energy soars.

Find a hobby to commit to – When you have a hobby to commit to you will have boundless energy. For me writing blogs and reading bring me enormous energy. This can be done indoors which is good. Find a worthwhile hobby that makes you feel great about yourself.

Stay grateful – Whenever you feel down at any point of time think of all the good things in your life and write it down. It may be as simple as being thankful for your good health, good family, good job or anything that you can think of. Once you do that automatically your mental energy increases and you feel great about life.

Think about your legacy – This is the final step but a very important one. When you think about the big picture of your life and think of the legacy you want to leave you get excited. This is one of the best methods to get energetic. Write your personal mission statement and look at it periodically. You will feel energetic when you connect with a larger purpose. This is not a new discussion and every author from Stephen Covey, Peter Drucker to the current day authors have spoken about the need to think about your legacy. I guess it is important and that’s the reason everyone talks about it.

There you have it all the ways you can get the most out of yourself and feel super excited and energetic about your life.
