Hey there, Happy Friday.
I hope you’ve had a great week so far. We’re coming up on the official start of spring next week on the 20th, and it looks like (with any luck) winter is officially done for good.
Last month you may have caught my newsletter to close out the month.
In it I referenced that by this point in the year, the end of the first quarter, less than 10% of people were keeping up with their new years resolutions for the year.
If you had a hunch that I may not have just pulled that number out from thin air, and you guessed that figure would be the subject of a full blog, you’re absolutely right on both counts.
I saw the figure at the start of the year, as a reminder to stay on track and made a mental note to circle back around to it once we really got into the thick of things. The stat came from a survey that you can read at this link
So, if around only 70% of people set the goals, and then only a max of 10% actually keep up with them, then what’s missing?
Aside from COVID being the reason people listed as to why they didn’t hit their goals at this point in the year, the biggest reason why people couldn’t hit their goals was that they “don’t have the willpower.”
Now I don’t know about you, but not having the willpower, that reminds me of yet another quote that you may remember from one of my weekly social media posts.
“Motivation is what gets you started, habit is what keeps you going.”
You can have all of the motivation to start your resolution, but what happens when your willpower runs out?
Well you can either just give up because you don’t have that willpower, or you could rely on your habit and your processes that allow you to execute that new goal over and over.
If you didn’t set a resolution, or you didn’t work out a system to ensure that you’re able to keep working towards that goal, do it right now. While we’re still in the first quarter of the year, before March ends.
Don’t be one of those people that falls off and never gets back on track because they lack the willpower.
Don’t let that be you.
