10 important tips to ace your campus recruitment

The campus recruitment process for a dream job can be quite intimidating. Only 20% of applicants who submit an average of 118 applications for a single position are selected for interviews, according to legaljobs. That's why you need to be confident and prepared to ace the interview. However, you may feel a tad stressed if you don't know what to expect. So here are some tips that will help you ace your campus recruitment:

Have a strong resume! (On Paper or Video)

24% of hiring managers spend fewer than 30 seconds looking at resumes in general. (Source: CareerBuilder, 2019)

The resume is the first thing a hiring manager will look at to see if you're a fit for the position. It's your marketing tool, and it needs to be tailored to the job you are applying for. Your resume should be concise, but not too concise; it needs enough detail about your skills and experience so that hiring managers can get an idea of what you're capable of doing, but also easy to read and understand so they don't lose interest halfway through.

All resumes should contain your name and contact details, this includes both email address and phone number as well as any other relevant information such as previous job titles or positions held.

Practice mock interviews!

According to research by Rayma Harchar, 100% of candidates that participated in the mock interview process found the experience quite helpful. Practicing mock interviews can improve self efficacy which will help you to crack your actual interview very easily. Here are the ways to practice for mock interviews:

  • Practice with a friend or family member. It’s always good to have someone on hand who can give you feedback on your performance, or at least be a sounding board to bounce ideas off.
  • Practice with a career counselor. Your school may have someone available through their career center who can help you prepare for interviews and teach you how to answer tough interview questions.
  • If there isn’t anyone available, I recommend checking out the website Shadowing AI which has hundreds of AI interview practice rooms where you can practice answering common questions like “Tell me about yourself?” and “Why do you want this job?” You’ll get feedback on where you can improve.

Go through company profiles and job descriptions!

Take out some time before the interview, to go through company profiles and job descriptions. This will help you prepare for your interview and it's a great way to get a feel for what the company is like.

You can find a lot of information about the company on social media (e.g., LinkedIn, Twitter) but also by googling them. Also, be sure to check out Glassdoor as they'll have anonymous reviews from previous employees who worked there in the past year or two so that could give a good insight into what it's like working there currently!

Use social media to your advantage!

In today’s digital landscape, social media is a critical aspect of any job search. If you’re not already active on some form of social media, this is the time to get started. Here are some ways you can use it to your advantage:

  • Have a good presence on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. These are the most important platforms for college students because they offer engagement opportunities and allow for quick updates about what is happening around them.
  • Use LinkedIn. Graduates with strong LinkedIn profiles stand out from their peers during campus recruitment processes because it shows that they understand the importance of professional networking at an early age (which could help them get noticed by recruiters).

Work on your communication skills!

According to a LinkedIn Survey, 57.9% of participants with strong communication skills got a new job. Communication skills was one of the top 10 most in demand skills. Poor communication among employees costs each organization, on average, $62.4 million annually, according to SHRM. So any company would not hire someone who has poor communication skills. Start working on it.

  • Be clear and concise. As you talk to your interviewer, be sure to be very specific about what you want them to know. This can be tricky but remember the more specific, the better.
  • Be confident. It's okay (and encouraged) for you to let interviewers know that there is no doubt in your mind that they will hire you because of how amazing your portfolio looks on paper or how great an interview went!
  • Be polite but assertive when communicating during campus recruitment season. You should never feel like what you have to say isn't important enough for someone else's time or attention.?

You can improve your communication skills by practicing in front of a mirror and if it is not available somewhere around there, AI is there to help you. Start practicing in the AI mirror room to improve communication skills and gain confidence. You will be able to receive feedback on where you need to improve.

Talk to current employees of the company you are being interviewed in!

By talking to people who work there, you can find out more about the company, get a feel for its culture and ask questions that will help you decide if it is a good fit for your personality and interests. You may feel more enthusiasm once you know that the particular company is a perfect fit for you!

Keep yourself updated with the latest news!

Keeping yourself updated is one of the most important things to do in your campus recruitment process. You need to read newspapers and magazines often, follow social media sites and read blogs as much as possible. Also, watch news channels regularly so that you can understand what’s going on around you and get an idea of what kind of jobs are available out there in this competitive world.

Dress smartly and professionally on the day of the interview!

You want to show that you care about your appearance, that you’re confident in yourself and what you have to offer and (most importantly) that you want this job!

  • Dress for the job: if a position requires formal attire, wear it. If it requires casual attire, do so. If a company has an office dress code for its employees and applicants, follow it. For example: if your interview is in the morning at 9 am then consider wearing something like a sweater over a button-down shirt with slacks/jeans/sweatpants (whatever works best).
  • Make sure everything fits well and looks good on you before leaving home. There is no need to be overdressed but also no need to look like something went wrong during packing.

Be confident and honest!

  • Be confident in your answers.
  • Be honest in your answers.
  • Be confident in yourself, and be honest about your strengths and weaknesses.

Follow these tips and take a giant leap towards securing your dream job. In a nutshell, it is all about being yourself and impressing your potential employer in the best way possible. However, it is also important that you are well prepared for any question or situation that may arise during an interview. It’s like a game of chess where you have to think ahead of time and plan things out accordingly so that nothing goes wrong at the last minute!
