10 Great Strategies for Rebranding after Losing Out Due to Possible DEI Termination ?2025 Wayne D. Lewis, SR.

Brought to you by the Letters:

D as in Dreams- I am determined to achieve my goals and dreams!

E as in Everyone- I believe that everyone has value!

I as in I-I am not going to dwell on my past because my future has so much more to offer.

Question: why the distinction regarding a possible DEI-impacted termination or exclusion from any other?

Reason: from a future employer's standpoint, the question of why you may have lost out on your job or a contract is very likely going to come up. It may not be a direct question, but a master recruiter will give you the opportunity to discuss your past employment to see if you hold any ill-will towards a past employer. You don't! Right?

Will you be able to state without prejudice that you were terminated because you were the perceived beneficiary of DEI policies? Conversely, will you be able to state with confidence that you were the victim of the repeal of DEI policies? If you are not able to so without prejudice or confidence, then prepare to go down a rabbit hole that may result in a greater lost opportunity than a poorly written resume. Veer away from the topic Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility unless it is essential to your application.

Recommendation: Say little to nothing about your termination as it may or may not be related to DEI. A well-researched recruiter will be able to determine if you are a perfectly qualified applicant, DEI notwithstanding.

Until you are sitting face-to-face with a recruiter, it will be important to focus on what you have accomplished since your unplanned termination. Additionally, you as an applicant have skills, talents and abilities that are beyond dispute, so do not allow your past to overshadow your future with opportunities that you have yet to be aware.

During your interview, focus as little as possible on anything political unless asked, and then, speak factually, not politically, nor your personal opinion, as your personal opinion may cross a line that you cannot come back from. Let your recruiter know that you are either uncomfortable with a possible political topic or any topic that makes you uncomfortable. Always bring the conversation back to you and your outstanding talents, skills, and abilities.

Rebranding yourself after losing a job due to a possible DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) termination can be challenging, but it's also an opportunity for growth and reinvention. Focus on your accomplishments, and let any reference to DEI, unless mentioned, go!
