10 Great Podcasts
Roderic Yapp
Director - Leadership Capital. Creating the Conditions for Execution.
Over the past couple of months, several people have asked me which podcast channels I listen to. I regularly cite examples from podcasts in my work, they have an enormous impact on the way I think about leadership and high performance so I thought I'd share this list for the benefit of a wider audience.
The following list are the channels I listen to most regularly.
? ‘Waking Up’. Sam Harris is a neuroscientist who explores subjects like consciousness, learning how to think and the value of meditation. One of the most articulate and brilliant intellectuals of our time.
? ‘The Tim Ferriss Podcast’. Ferriss deconstructs the thoughts of ‘world class performers’. His premise is that anyone who is in the top 0.01% of their field will be thinking and acting differently to everyone else. He is an excellent interviewer and asks brilliant questions which lead to practical tips that people can implement for themselves.
? ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’. The largest audience on the podcasting circuit. He’s a comedian and a former MMA fighter. Unashamedly masculine but has long, interesting and intelligent conversations with interesting people.
? ‘Business Wars’. Brilliant stories of businesses who have been fighting for market share over the years. Nike vs Adidas, Burger King vs MacDonalds. Fascinating and well produced stories behind the businesses you see and use everyday.
? ‘Jocko Podcast’ with Jocko Willink. Former US Navy Seal talks about war and leadership. Interesting but intense guy! Google him to get a sense of what he’s all about!
? ‘The Knowledge Project’ with Shane Parrish - The guy behind the Farnam Street blog which is the best blog on the internet by a country mile. Talks about learning from mistakes and mental models.
? ‘Great Leap Years’ with Stephen Fry. The story of our past and the inventions that shaped us. Fry is a brilliant writer and it really shows in this podcast.
? ‘The Practical Stoic Podcast’ - explanations on what is stoicism and how it can improve your life.
? ‘The Art of Manliness’ Great interviews with people who have written books that revolve around the concept of ‘being a better person’.
? ‘Rugby Union Weekly’ Because this list can get a bit intense! I like rugby and enjoy listening to these guys talk about it!
