As a Hotel Waiter or a Bar Person you must work towards excelling in the following areas. Please share this with any Hotel Waiters or a Bar People you know or any Hotel Trainers.
Public image-conscious As Hotel Waiter or a Bar Person, you must always maintain a good public image. Like it or not, you are judged by your appearance as well your conduct. People form an opinion on what you do through your appearance long before they receive any food or consume a drink.
Tolerance Unlike other professions where you can often escape from the stress or chatter of an annoying co-worker, as a Hotel Waiter or a Bar Person you will be forced to deal with them every shift. Intolerance isn't an option. Tolerance will maintain your sanity.
Physical fitness Many of the most crucial aspects of the Hotel Waiters or a Bar Persons' job requires above-average strength, stamina and agility. Many functions simply cannot be performed without a high fitness level. Health and fitness is an essential part of Restaurant and Bar work.
Flexibility and adaptability Hotel Waiters and Bar People who are not flexible in their work are instead rigid and high-maintenance. Hotel Waiters and Bar People need to make many sacrifices and compromises and have the willingness and ability to live and work very dynamically.
Communication is essential in any successful relationship. Working in a Restaurant and Bar you will have many different types of relationships with many different types of people. Clear, intelligent, courteous and open communication is essential. You will need to know how to listen.
Dedication Regardless of what you call it, it is essential that Hotel Waiters and Bar People are hard-working, well trained people who take pride in their work and want to be the best at what they do. Hotel Waiters and Bar People must strive for excellence at all times no matter what they are doing.
Integrity A Hotel Waiters’ and Bar Persons’ misconduct of any kind not only hurts their Department but hurts the entire Hotel business because it chips away at the public's trust that is so essential. A Hotel Waiter and Bar Person must be trustworthy and reliable in every situation.
Mechanical aptitude Every Hotel Waiter and Bar Person must have above average mechanical aptitude. Your trade requires the use of a variety of tools, knives or trays which many people simply could not master. You need many skills requiring mechanical aptitude.
Self-sacrifice means that you are equally concerned with the well-being of others as much as you are with your own well-being. Great Hotel Waiters and Bar People have a natural desire to help others and have a giving spirit.
Team player Hotel Waiters and Bar People are a part of team. Being a team player and understanding the team concept is of utmost importance. Others are always relying on you to do your job efficiently. When one person does not, the whole team suffers and the entire shift can be jeopardised.
Hotel Waiters and Bar People more than many other professionals — need to possess a multitude of skills and talents, not to mention the ability to carry out their shift work to the Highest Standard !
