10 Favourite Dining Options in Adelaide During PIEF Conference

Whether you're looking for a gastronomical delight, some cool casual vibes, or some seriously good scenery, Adelaide has it all on offer for eating out in the CBD.

Although it was difficult to shortlist and choose, we’ve managed to pull together a varied list of some favourites you might want to try while in Adelaide for #pief2023 next week.? ? ?

Fuggazi Bar & Dining Room

Fuggazi is a fancy New York-inspired Italian-American bar and dining room. The deliberate and tasteful décor transports you to an upmarket Brooklyn Italian diner. The pasta is to die for, and the simple yet supremely fried bread (gnocco fritto) is an absolute must.

If you need a break from all the carbs, there’s some fine meat and seafood dishes on offer from the fire grill. There’s a decent cheese selection to finish your meal off with. Don’t be surprised if you spot a familiar face, Fuggazi is known to be frequented by international celebs.

Restaurant Botanic

If you have time on your hands and are feeling extravagant (that is, cashed up), you can try Adelaide’s latest three hat restaurant. Restaurant Botanic sits in middle of Adelaide Botanic Gardens, offering incomparable views and peace, all in the city.

You are taken on a dining journey that is expected to last a minimum of four hours as you’re presented with 20 different flavour combinations in all different shapes and sizes. The experience includes pairing with alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages.

Strathmore Hotel

Feeling like some pub grub or stone grilling your own prime cuts of beef or seafood? Or do you fancy enjoying a South Australian Coopers ale while taking in sweeping views of North Terrace at the all-weather Verandah Bar?

?If so, the family-owned Strathmore Hotel is the place to head, and is only a five minute stroll from Adelaide Oval. With multiple dining spaces and several menus, there’s something for everyone and every craving.

JAPANESE INSPIRED

Shōbōsho

Based on the ancient traditions of Japanese yakitori, Shōbōshō – literally translating to ‘fire station’ in Japanese – blend smoke, steam and fire when serving up meals to guests.

The menu is personally served by chefs across the bar and features a raw selection, yakitori, noodles, dumplings, bao, robata grilled and spit roasted meats. A standout is the simply seasoned, seared full-blood wagyu beef. In addition to Japanese, the menu and flavours also see Korean, Chinese and Taiwanese influences.

?You can choose to visit the more casual and intimate spin off yakitori bar – Shō –?which serves up charcoal-grilled sticks. Next door to Shōbōsho is Shōmen, specialising in ramen and sandos.

Merry Maker Rooftop Bar

Enjoy views of the city and iconic hills from Merry Maker – Adelaide’s highest rooftop bar located in the Hotel Indigo near the Adelaide Central Market. The casual bar is art deco-inspired and styled with bold colours.

The menu is designed to share or for light bites that include fresh SA oysters, fancy smoked ham and cheese toasties, and pizzas fresh from the oven. All dishes utilise fresh South Australian produce.

S?l Rooftop

Perched on top of the Eos Hotel, the sophisticated S?l Rooftop bar boasts sweeping views from hills to coast, incorporating views of Adelaide Oval and the River Torrens.?

You can choose to sit outside where a DJ often spins to cocktail sipping guests, or indoors for a more subdue vibe still with stunning views.

There are several menus to choose from: A La Carte, sharing menu, banquet menu, vegetarian menu, high tea, brunch and supper menu. Decent cocktails are on offer, along with a large wine list.?

Bread & Bone

Bread & Bone’s wood grill takes centre stage at this late-night eatery serving up snacks, burgers and larger dishes for lunch and dinner, along with drinks.

Bread & Bone’s burgers and hotdogs are not your ordinary fare. Burgers can be your traditional go to, or can include speck, wombok, minich, roast chilli Kewpie or soft-shell crab. The hotdogs are gourmet including Vienna, bratwurst or weisswurst sausage. For finishing off, the soft serve ice cream selection is house made.

Georges on Waymouth

George’s on Waymouth is a long-respected restaurant in the CBD with prompt service, professional attention and with smartly turned-out Mediterranean dishes.

The contemporary European-inspired menu is divided into entrees, pastas and mains of meat, poultry, pork and seafood. Having said that, the specials board is always your first go to. The menu takes advantage of seasonal produce and charcoal is used for most of the cooking. Pair your meal with wine from an extensive wine list.?

PIZZA

Sunny’s Pizza

You’ll find laid back Sunny’s tucked away in a laneway between Currie and Hindley streets featuring retro styling and 80s retro tunes. Perfect for either a quick bite before heading out or to linger over drinks soaking up the vibe.

The pizza is crispy and fluffy having given the dough 48 hours to develop, with your typical and not so typical toppings. There are also many non-pizza options on the menu.

This energetic East End restaurant is always full and buzzing. It delivers authentic representations of Thai cuisine with a contemporary twist.

Staff are attentive and helpful, which is needed given the authenticity of the ingredients, many of which are unfamiliar. The Tuk Tuk menu option comprises of chef choices that parade a range of flavours and dishes that will delight your palate and surprise along the way. Make sure you address the chilli levels before finalising your order to avoid fiery surprises!
