You can choose to be happy and you are as happy as you choose to be.?
Everyone can be happy but happiness is relative to everyone.?
Happiness for someone might mean being at peace, being with their loved ones, or pursuing or enjoying travelling around the world, trying new foods and experiencing a new culture.
We also know about three types of happiness: pleasure/gratification, passion/engagement (embodiment of strengths and virtues) and meaning/purpose.?
Happiness is personal to everyone,?but living a happier and more satisfying life is possible regardless of what true happiness is to you.
However, once you define happiness from the position of meaning and purpose, your joy becomes sustainable.?
The longest-lasting form of happiness is characterised by experiencing positive emotions while simultaneously perceiving one’s life as meaningful and worthwhile.?
Making some changes to your regular habits can help you get there. Habits are essential if you want to change your life.
Incorporating certain habits into your daily life will help you improve the quality of your life and make yourself happy.
Most people do not make a conscious choice to be happy, maybe because they have not considered the benefits of one being happy. If you are one of those, look out for my forthcoming article on the benefits of happiness.
Here are 10 simple ways to give yourself a daily dose of happiness:
●??????Keep your self-talk as positive as possible, and create positive affirmations you can give yourself each morning.?A happy mind is a happy life.
3. Create deep connections.?Create strong bonds with people you care about. People with close relations to those they can count on are happier. Building close relationships with people around you can provide support, love, and a source of validation that enhances your sense of self-worth.
4. Appreciate what you have.?Sometimes, we get caught up in the day-to-day hustle and forget to appreciate what we have and the fantastic people we have.?Being appreciative is one of the best feelings that can stimulate happiness.

●??????When you choose to be grateful for your things, you’ll be happier and more content when you can express your gratitude to the people you are thankful for.
5. Celebrate small wins.?Always take time to appreciate the small victories in your life. You don’t have to wait to experience big wins to celebrate. Happy moments often come from small things. We may not always be happy but we can; hence we need to encourage ourselves every day by appreciating small wins.
●??????Celebrating wins, no matter how big or small, helps you stay focused on positivity and gratitude.?Those small wins can counter any feelings of giving up.
6. Make time to relax and exercise.?Our bodies and minds connect. Good eating habits, staying active, and getting sufficient sleep will improve your mood and give you more fuel when needed.
●??????Having enough sleep allows you to go into the day with renewed energy.?When we stay active, eat well, have enough rest, try to improve our health, mood and love more, day by day, we become happier.
7. Avoid comparing yourself to others.?Feeling inspired by other people’s lives and what they do is normal. But comparing their success to yours is a mistake. Your path differs from everyone’s. They lived their lives, and so did you.
●??????Comparing your life to theirs is like taking an exam from a class you haven’t been in. Instead of wasting energy and comparing yourself,?focus on your journey, how far you’ve come, and what to do to improve your life.
8. Forgive yourself for past mistakes.?Holding on to past mistakes doesn’t change them. You are better off forgiving yourself and moving on from the past. The emotional and physical relief that comes from that is priceless.
●??????Move on and allow yourself to enjoy life without holding on to things that can’t change.
9.????Show gratitude to others. Recognise the benefits other people bring to your life and appreciate them for it. See the good in others and compliment them for it. Look out for that tiniest good in others and magnify it.
10.?Give. Find opportunities to bless others. Giving can be of a material substance or service. Look out for opportunities to support people in your sphere of contact. Givers are happy people. Not giving out of pressure, guilt, shame or compulsion but rather out of compassion.?
Making a conscious effort to be happy is easy and challenging at the same time in this busy world but never unreachable.?Your happiness depends on your effort and consistency in your journey to maintain your joy.
Live life free of holding on to what you can’t change. Appreciate what you have now and love those around you. You’ll be glad you did!
