We all have seen, that particular person around us who just knows how to make those around them so motivated and inspired to do anything, that person that just knows how to be assertively confident and infects those around them to be the same, that person that just seems to have everything under control and seem to hold everyone by the hand and lead them towards progress. Most times we might think "Oh! this person was born to just be awesome with people!" But I am quite sure you know the secret to this is not that they were born to be the kind of person they have shown us they are. The secret is that they took time to learn all these from top leaders around them and those they see on tv or those they have read their books enough to get knowledge on how to lead.
We have different types of leadership styles, but today is not the day I wish to give you details on that, so I'd beg you to pardon me for I will just have the assumption that you know already the types of leadership we have. Yeah I know you'd say "assumption leads to disaster" but just allow me to skip that part and move on to how easily you can integrate some good leadership skills into your day-to-day life both at work and away from work.
As a leader, it's important to have the skills necessary to get you and your team working effectively to achieve goals. Here are 10 ways to improve your leadership skills.
1.????Offer to help someone out: If you want to be a leader, it means prioritizing other people's wants and goals before your own. Even if you don't have the title of manager or supervisor yet, that's an attitude you can embrace right away. If you notice a team member suffering from a difficult project? Offer to sit down with him/her and discuss things. See if there's anything you can help them out with, no matter how minor.
2.????Set self-imposed goals: Whether it's learning a completely new talent or completing a project well ahead of schedule, developing the habit of meeting and surpassing goals will guarantee you're ready to lead when the time comes. If your company's statutory targets aren't motivating you enough, make some self-imposed goals that you may strive towards.
3.????Get outside your department: It's easy to grow isolated inside your section before moving through the ranks, but if you want to be a leader, you'll need to learn how to interact with other teams and departments. For example, offer to take someone from the engineering team out for coffee to learn more about what motivates them, and how they discuss their job. Repeating that easy activity with different individuals in your firm can help you hone that critical leadership ability.
4.????Listen, listen and listen some more: Leaders spend a lot of time speaking, lecturing, and delegating, but what about much more? When you're at a team meeting or having a talk with a coworker, carefully listen to their point of view before offering your own. The more you practice taking a step back and absorbing the ideas and viewpoints of others, the more equipped you'll be to be a top-tier leader.
5.????Be an encourager: Whether you're a manager, boss, or employee, you may be the person who can look on the bright side and lift everyone's spirits at work. Be the one to jump in with some encouraging words — and maybe even a cup of coffee for the entire crew. Assure a coworker that you believe she will figure things out. Be a motivator.
6.????Get familiar with your strengths: Self-awareness is one quality that distinguishes a successful leader. You can find your strong points by asking yourself questions such as: What are your favorite projects? and Which projects frighten you the most? Such questions will assist you in taking a critical look at yourself and determining your strengths and limitations. a. 1. What are your favorite projects? 2. Which projects frighten you the most? 3. Are there any common themes among the projects and jobs you enjoy? 4. Are there any issue areas that come up again and again in previous feedback??

7.????Take control of your learning: Have you identified an area where you could improve? For example, you may be aware that you need to improve your ability to use data to make judgments. Request assistance from someone in your organization who is an expert in this area. Not sitting idly by and waiting for things to happen for you is an excellent way to demonstrate your leadership potential. Do everything you can to take control of your professional progress.
8.????Solicit feedback: When you deliver constructive criticism and harsh comments to your peers, it might appear condescending and annoying. But this does not exclude you from soliciting input - and this is just another sign of a successful leader. If you're working on a group project, ask your colleagues how they believe your section is coming along.
9.????Own your mistakes: Get in the practice of owning your faults right now, as difficult as it may be at times. If you make a mistake, repair it straight away and notify the appropriate individuals, rather than hope it goes undiscovered. The humility to confess mistakes is a key — and sometimes undervalued — trait of some of the finest leaders.
10.?Accept the challenge: Leaders must be prepared to take control, get their hands filthy, and physically take one for the team. Fortunately, you can begin honing that talent right now. Request more duties from your supervisor. Volunteer for that difficult project. Perform the grunt task that everyone else avoids.?
