?? If you are having a difficult time trying to find out ways to successfully differentiate your personal brand or business, this edition is just for you. ??
Successfully differentiating yourself from your competition in your particular niche can be very difficult to achieve. After all, it is only 3% of the entrepreneurs out there who successfully do so.
When it comes to differentiating yourself accordingly, you need to be able to meet the following criteria:
1) Your differentiator(s) must NOT be made up just for the sake of making it up
- Remember: Your personality does NOT count as a differentiator
2) Your differentiator(s) must be important to the audience you serve
- It even has to match what your whole personal brand is about in the first place
3) You must be able to prove it
- You have to practice what you preach
Some of the ways in which you can gain a competitive advantage and differentiate yourself with your personal brand include the following:
1) Specialize in a particular industry
- Are you a fan of SaaS? Use that as part of your story you can share in your branding as to why you are passionate for SaaS.
2) Create a unique and different kind of service
- See a particular service not being offered by anyone else, create it
- See a particular service that is being offered, differentiate based off what your competitors are NOT offering and word it in an "eye-catching" way that matches your brand's story
3) Offer a unique process that is memorable
- Memorable, being the key word here. When you create a process that makes people remember you in a positive way, you are doing something right
- FYI, make it happen in your sales process
4) Provide a fascinating slogan
- Read this here to understand why a slogan is so important
5) Giving access to information people should know that is NOT "Googleable"
- When you provide a "sweet" sauce of information that can't be found on Google, that's where the opportunities for you will come
- Make sure to present this in your personal branding story
6) Offer your own "in brand" network
- Networking is one of the most popular aspects people try to take advantage of
- In one of your unique offerings, try to include a networking group or events that can let your clients get to know other clients
7) Accomplishment differentiation
- What is it that you have achieved, whether in your past jobs in corporate or with other clients, that no other competitor can say
8) Look and act differently than your competitors
- Duh!!! Obviously
- Let's say a social media specialist provides LinkedIn work. You need to present yourself and your brand's appearance differently while also wording out what you do in a more differentiated and unique way
9) Using your differentiators when it comes to comparatives
- Trust me on this one, your potential clients will be looking at other competitors of yours
- This tactic will allow your potential client to see the value you provide while also demonstrating the lack of value that the competitors can't provide
10) Always be consistent with your differentiators
- Whether it comes to your processes of target audience, networking, messaging, sales, branding, etc. it all comes down to consistency
- Nobody likes to be fooled or second guessed as to what you are doing or what value you are providing
