10 Days Without a Phone!

10 Days Without a Phone!

It has been a while since I published, as I was running an experiment...

Last week, I turned off my phone for 10 days.

I cheated twice...

  • Once on Monday to let my team know what I was doing.
  • Once on Thursday to pay my team.

The "cheats" seemed like the responsible thing to do.

Other than that, I turned off my phone. No emails, no phone calls, no text messages, no notifications from LI/YT/etc.

What was the result?

Over 1,000+ notifications.

96.3% were non-value added noise.

37 of the notifications were what I would consider value added to my personal & business activities.

The OPTIC(S)? concept for today is the Signal to Noise Ratio.

In the world of science, the SNR (signal to noise ratio) is a measure used to compare the level of a desired signal (the 37 value adding notifications) to the level of background noise (963+ non-value adding notifications!)

As business owners & leaders it is imperative to evaluate the SNR that is holding us back.

What is your SNR?

How will you change it? (Pro-Tip: I have taken 3 actions that I will share in the next newsletter to let you know how they are turning out!)
