Moms have had a rough year. Between having to monitor their children during remote learning, manage the ever-changing guidelines and expectations of a pandemic, worry about the health and safety of their families, and work through social distancing and isolation, many moms are worn out and discouraged. Women are?leaving the workforce1?in record numbers to take care of their kids and have had their?mental health negatively affected2, much more than men.
Clearly, moms need a break.?
The best customer experiences are built on empathy. There’s no better way to empathize with a mom than to acknowledge the difficulties she faces and give her what she wants—the chance to unwind and have time for herself.
Companies across all industries can tailor their experiences to stressed-out and overwhelmed moms. When you support and lift a mom, you help an entire family.?
Here are 10 customer experiences moms will love, both around Mother’s Day and all year round.?
Massage and Pampering
Even if you have to wear a mask, getting a massage is one of the most relaxing forms of self-care. After bearing the heightened physical and emotional burdens of their families for more than a year, moms are likely feeling tense and stressed. A massage can be a welcome relief and leave moms rejuvenated and restored. Massages can go beyond the traditional variety and include foot massages, chair massages or even an at-home massage and pampering kit.
Therapy
One of the most devastating effects of the pandemic has been the isolation and mental strain. Moms often feel unsupported and alone without their trusted network of friends, family and colleagues. Turning to professional therapy can help women work through their emotional struggles and teach them valuable skills to manage stress and anxiety.?Virtual therapy3?has grown exponentially over the last two years, giving moms a chance to talk to mental health professionals from the comfort of their own homes. When creating an experience for moms, consider how it can help improve their mental health and give them tools to handle stress.?
Eating Out
After more than a year of cooking every meal every day for the entire family, moms want a chance to eat out. As restaurants around the country start to re-open and expand their capacity, moms want to be able to sit down at a table that isn’t theirs and enjoy great food and drinks without having to get up. Although the restaurant industry is already struggling during the pandemic, delivering great service or providing tailored menus for moms can build an amazing experience.?
Shopping
Online or in store, retail therapy can be good for the soul. A great shopping experience can resonate with moms and be just what they need. Creating a mom-centric shopping experience, such as highlighting products moms would love or offering personalized shopping, can elevate the experience.??
Maintaining Friendships
It’s already hard for moms to maintain friendships while managing their families, and friendships have suffered even more during the pandemic. Experience centered around maintaining friendships, no matter if it’s a class for women to take together, a group that fosters social interaction, or an outing moms can go on with friends, resonates with women and helps moms build and strengthen their support systems.?

Exercise
Exercise and movement has been a savior and mood-booster for many moms and serves as a good way to reduce stress and stay healthy. Something as simple as walking on the treadmill or as strenuous as an hour-long HIIT class gives moms a chance to focus on themselves and celebrate their bodies. Group exercise classes pair movement with social opportunities to stimulate the body and mind.?
At-Home Food and Drinks??
Many people have improved their cooking skills over the last two years, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t stuck in a rut. Anything that can elevate the at-home food and drink experience is a win for moms, from a wine delivery service to gourmet home chef lessons or bake-at-home cookies. It’s an added bonus if she can enjoy the food on her own without having to share it with her kids.??
Time Outdoors
For many women, spending time in the fresh air outdoors has been a saving grace during the pandemic. Taking time outside, even for just a few minutes, can help you refocus and breathe. Experiences that take place outside, even something as simple as moving an indoor experience to a courtyard or park, can be a welcome break for moms and elevate the overall experience. ?
Leaning on Technology
Moms have realized the power of technology over the past year as they’ve used it to do everything from teach their children to participate in virtual happy hours and join local meetings. Though some moms may have Zoom fatigue, they also realize the power of technology. Experiences that lean on technology to connect women and to help them feel safe can expand the reach and build a stronger community.?
Media and Entertainment
Without in-person entertainment, moms have turned to digital media. Streaming shows and movies and listening to podcasts gives mom a much-needed break, even if that just means putting on headphones while still at home surrounded by kids. An experience centered on media, such as a new movie, show, book, or podcast, is a great way for moms to relax and find new things to read and stream.??
Moms deserve to be celebrated all year round, not just on Mother’s Day. The past year has been difficult for moms, and we’re not out of the woods yet. Find a way to incorporate mom-friendly experiences into your company to lift and celebrate the women who do it all.?

2 年Excellent perspective. That is what I have been saying all along. Empathy is something we jave since birth, we were raised with empathy, each and every single our moms did, the feeding, the bathing, the singing and swinging, all are a result of a moms empathy to her child. This process causes sleepless nights, disturbances, worries and shocks, which is most felt by mothers. We should always acknowledge what mothers sacrifice for their children. Especially with the Pandemic, more work has been added to her and hence all firms must put such moms first. This way we know the value the power of empathy, and hence deliver exepectional customer experiences. Thanks Blake Morgan.
