10 Commercial Uses For Drones
If you don't know what a drone is click here.
They're unmanned aerial vehicles often used to take impressive photos (see above) and videos. They can (and will) have various commercial uses as their 'low-cost', user-friendly and dynamic nature mean they can be put to use across a broad range of industries.
Before we go into some of the commercial uses for drones, let's focus on the above photo for a second. It was taken in October capturing the London skyline. If you look in the far left you'll see the towers in Canary Wharf. Guide your eyes rightwards and you'll spot The Walkie Talkie near Liverpool Street, The Shard, the London Eye and last but not least the BT Tower in the bottom right of the shot. A few years ago you'd need a helicopter and expensive camera gear to take this photo. However, times are changing especially with the creation and the rise of drones.
What once would have taken weeks of planning can now be done in less than 5 minutes.
1. Delivery
Think Amazon, Deliveroo and UberEats - drones in addition to motorbikes, bicycles and cars.
2. Architecture / Construction
Send a drone down to the foundations of a construction site or +500 metres up in the sky for a quick and easy snapshot of the current construction scene/progress.
3. Special Events (Weddings)
Photos and videos look 10x better from a birds-eye view.
4. Search and Rescue
Drones can cover more land and distance than any rescue dog or search crew.
5. Security
Live video feeds from drones to handheld devices make large area security coverage more effective.
6. Agriculture
Think farming.
7. Advertising / Marketing
Traditional advertising and marketing techniques are dying. Holiday and golf resorts, hotels, stadiums and various other venues, businesses and organisations are turning to stunning drone footage for their advertising and promotional campaigns.
8. Geographic Mapping
Mountains, volcanos and various other terrain that are uninhabited and unaccessible to humans can easily be mapped and explored through the deployment of drones.
9. Disaster Management
Can't get a news reporter, aid or eyes on the ground after a natural disaster? Send a drone.
10. Fun
Flying drones can be exciting and fun. Drone flying competitions and tournaments exist all over the world.
What other uses for drones do you think exist or might exist in the future?
