10 Business Lessons Every Entrepreneur Needs to Learn

10 Business Lessons Every Entrepreneur Needs to Learn

I probably do 3x 1 to 1 calls a day, so thought I'd share some of the common things that come up on these calls to help you & more people on LinkedIn:

1. You are not alone. Everything that happens to you in business you find hard (scaling, managing time, outsourcing, selling more products) EVERY entrepreneur goes or is going through. Ask. For. Help. It is NOT a weakness but a strength

2. It's great to want to help people and make a difference, but the purpose of a business is to make profit. If it doesn't it is a hobby or charity, so focus on revenue and profit, and when you have a lot of it then you can help others.

3. Time management is way easier than you think. Most people I speak to on the phone have read my book "Routine = Results" yet they are still NOT planning their diary & compartmentalising their time & tasks. If you don't plan in all your KRAs & IGTs, the world will have a plan for you. You can start outsourcing now, even if you think you can't afford it, by getting low level admin done, starting 5 hours a week. Start & build it up now so that by the time you need it you are already there, rather than having to start outsourcing while really really busy.

4. Manage & master your emotions well. Mark & I regularly talk to each other that emotional mastery is business mastery. Control your flip outs, smile at people who piss you off, pick your battles wisely & do not let things become or mean more than they really are. There's an upside to all difficulties if you care to look.

5. If you want to be great at business, & have a great business, & keep growing your business, you need to get great at marketing.

6. You need to up your social media game for 2019 because there are HUGE opportunities for those leveraging Facebook, YouTube, Podcasts, LinkedIn, Instagram & more.

7. Try to maintain a balance of confidence & humility. Everyone with the ability to learn can become a successful entrepreneur, but don't get ahead of yourself, & try to always remain a student, humble to the process. Keep reading, asking Qs, listening to audios, etc.

8. Plan, prepare, save, get liquid & get access to financiers NOW, ready for the next recession. It might be 1, 3 or 5 years away, but it WILL offer great business opportunities. So be ready for it, or you will wish you were in 15 years time.

9. Know what type of business you want so you can build the right one for you. Are you an Intrepreneur who wants to worth for/with a great entrepreneur, a lifestyle entrepreneur who wants time and freedom, or an empire builder who wants to take over the world and build a vast business?

10. Everyone says 'you gotta work hard hard hard', but this is only a small part of the success equation. You CAN work smart, pick tasks that render all others unnecessary, forge great partnerships, maximise your time, outsource, ask for help, get smart advice, masterminding & mentorship; Do NOT just mindlessly work all the hours & burn yourself out & end up divorced. QUESTION what you are doing; is it the most effective use of your time right now? Let SMART work give you a sense of satisfaction, not just hard work. Hard work worked in the industrial age, but we are in the knowledge, recommendation & leverage age now. You need to update your programming.
