10 of the Best Bentleys Sold on Collecting Cars

Since the first Bentley was offered to the public in 1921, the marque has been synonymous with cars that offer a unique blend of power, presence and elegance. More than 240 Bentleys have been sold on collecting Cars to date, and here we examine 10 of the best; from pre-war tourers to sumptuous saloons and rapid coupes.

We begin with what could be argued as a quintessential example of the contemporary Bentley. With its beautiful Havana Metallic over Autumn Hide colour combination and 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged 530bhp power unit, this Mulsanne Speed showcased the marque’s grace, style and power at its finest. The exceptional specification included Naim for Bentley audio, Wi-Fi hot spot, rear and side-view cameras, heated rear seats, iPad picnic tables as well as LCD screens. With just 4,953 miles on the odometer, this sophisticated Mulsanne Speed attracted strong interest in May 2022, selling for ￡82,500.

To the untrained eye, this imposing coupe may look like a standard Continental GT, but its flowing silhouette and discreet Beluga Black over black leather colour scheme disguised its high-performance specification. A rare Bentley Continental GT Supersports; this car was one of just 103 right-hand-drive cars ever built. It featured a lower ride height, rear-seat delete, reworked suspension, unique lightweight alloys, two-inch wider track, as well as an uprated engine, gearbox, cooling system, four-wheel-drive system, and brakes. Recently detailed and equipped with the rarely specified carbon-fibre seats, this exhilarating Continental GT Supersports achieved ￡45,500 in October 2021.

Rolling back the decades to 18 years after the manufacturer was founded, this Bentley 4.5-litre reached the end of the ‘Derby’ production line, before being sent to coachbuilder Park Ward to be finished as a ‘razor edge’ styled Pillarless Saloon. First owned by Australian pastoralist and philanthropist, Captain Tom Barr-Smith, it was believed to be one of just 20 ever made and retained its original interior, glass, and headlights. Embodying the luxury pinnacle of pre-war British motoring, this rare 4.5-litre sold for A$100,500 in November 2021.

From the sublimely original to the wonderfully unique; this coach-built homage to the iconic Bentley Specials of the early ‘30s was offered in October 2021. Equipped with a 5.7-litre straight-eight engine, this one-off was built by Racing Green Engineering to ‘Special Speed 8’ specification using a 1949 Bentley Mk VI chassis. Coupling the pre-war aesthetic with later conveniences including a synchromesh gearbox, improved suspension and brakes, power steering, and even heated seats; this ‘Special Speed 8’ piqued the interest of enthusiasts worldwide, and was secured with a winning bid of €245,500.

In August 2021, this stately Emerald Black Brooklands Mulliner R was sold on Collecting Cars. Vehicle number two of just 100 produced, the rare luxury saloon was based on the long-wheelbase version of the Brooklands R, and featured a more powerful engine, dark stained walnut veneers, mesh grille and wing vents, and hand-crafted upholstery. This example was also equipped with the the sport suspension package, performance braking system and heavily bolstered ‘sport’ seats. Accompanied by a comprehensive main dealer and specialist service history; this Brooklands Mulliner R sold for ￡20,000.

While Bentleys may be known for their luxury, the Continental GT3-R was a showcase of just how much performance focus could be extracted from its opulent grand tourer. One of just 300 units produced, the GT3-R retained the expected comfort, while featuring stiffer suspension, carbon-ceramic brake discs, a thunderous Akrapovi? exhaust, lightweight forged alloys, as well as a host of carbon-fibre components and aggressive styling. Weighing 100kg less than its GT counterpart, this GT3-R with only 8,168 km on the odometer was snapped up in December 2022 with a winning bid of €130,000.

Returning to a more familiar level of opulence, this Peacock Blue over cream Bentley Azure was sold on Collecting Cars in August 2021, finding a new owner with a winning bid of ￡85,000. Powered by an impressive twin-turbocharged 450bhp V8, this elegant open-top cruiser was one of just 131 right-hand drive examples produced, and the 20,484 miles on the odometer was supported by an impressive main dealer and specialist service history.

Like the Azure, the Brooklands coupe offered in February 2021 was powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V8, though in this guise it produced a mighty 530bhp and 774lb-ft of torque. The Brooklands was rare too, with just 426 examples believed to have been built, and only 105 of those being right-hand drive. Finished in the flattering hue of Diamon Blue Silver, this cosseting Brooklands featured diamond-stitched seat inserts, electrically adjustable and heated front seats with massage function, heated and reclining rear seats, and elegant dark walnut burr veneers. Presented for sale with impeccable service history, it was secured by its new owner with a winning bid of ￡103,700.

This handsome Bentley Mk VI was first delivered to Dr Georg Tugendhat, grandfather of Tom Tugendhat MP, in London in May 1950, before being exported to the USA. In 2013 it was rediscovered and repatriated, and in 2016 it returned to the road as a ‘Special’ following a thorough conversion carried out by a retired Bentley-trained engineer. As well as a comprehensive refurbishment of the chassis, its stunning alloy coachwork was crafted by renowned UK-based fabricator, Derek Vertenten. The result of a no-expense-spared project, it found a new home with a winning bid ￡63,750 in February 2022.

In August 2022, Collecting Cars offered this handsome, rare, and luxurious Bentley Continental Sedanca Coupe (SC). A limited-edition variant of the Continental T, the SC was the first model produced under Volkswagen ownership, with this example one of only 10 reserved for the UK market. The car was finished in smart Royal Ebony Black over Sandstone leather, and attracted interested a raft of enthusiasts, closing with a winning bid of ￡117,000.
