We spend our free moments engrossed in digital writing.
Scrolling Twitter (oh, I mean, X).
Scrolling news feeds to see what's happening in the world.
We are constantly scrolling and consuming other people's ideas.
It is past time you stopped consuming and started creating. Share your ideas with the world and prey on the massive opportunity at your fingertips.
Think about it. You can reach millions of eyeballs with an internet connection. The world is your oyster, and it is only up to you. You have professional knowledge and unique life experience that can help someone.
Reach them through digital writing!
10 Benefits of Digital Writing
- You don't have to ask anyone's permission. Oh, how writers of the past wish they had what you have now: the chance to hit 'publish' without any gatekeeper. You don't have to have a publisher wave their wand and grant you the power to reach millions of eyeballs. You can do that yourself. Starting today.
- You find your passion as you go. Few people are crystal clear on exactly how they'd like to solve a problem in the world. Digital writing helps you first find your passion. Then, it helps you hone in on how you can help solve a problem within that niche. Don't wait for the perfect solution. Drag it to yourself in real time when you share your thoughts online.
- It is free & accessible to anyone. If you have a device and an internet connection, you can start digital writing. This form of consumable writing is available to anyone. And a sweet benefit of it is that everyone starts from zero when they start.
- You stand out as a problem solver from your peers. Everyone is out there getting degrees, certifications, and extra letters after their name. They do it to stand out from their peers. You get to shortcut all that nonsense by standing out with your ideas. The gumption to publicly share your solution is worth more than all the certificates combined.
- You develop the muscle of putting yourself out there. You're not going to turn into a world-famous digital writer. This likely won't spur a paid writing career for you. You'll develop that habit of strengthening your creation muscle. That small habit and easy-to-overlook work ethic will put you head and shoulders above everyone else. It'll put you first in line for positions you thought were never available to you.
- You put your energy into creating (instead of worrying or consuming). Professionals (especially white coats in healthcare) are so prone to overthinking and worrying. They want to be perfect. They won't create something unless it is perfect. That perfection-seeking is just a form of procrastination and fear. Most never begin to share their ideas. But when you put that same energy into writing, it's like hitting release on the steam valve. You've moved that energy into creation rather than keeping it trapped in your head. Doing so gives you more energy and makes you feel better. What was fueling your worry is now fueling an output.
- Create a long-term asset. Writing your ideas down every day may feel like a small matter. As is often the case, it is the small things that turn into big things. The body of work you create drop-by-drop has the potential to turn into an asset that you can monetize.
- You become the go-to person for XYZ. It's not what you know, but who. With digital writing, you get to make yourself the who! You establish yourself as The Expert in a niche and make yourself the go-to. How cool is that? You don't have to wait for someone else to put a spotlight on you. Set up your own dang spotlight right now. You set yourself up as the expert and circumvent, waiting for someone else to notice you to start.
- Consistent professional development. Digital writing is the smallest thing you can do every day to create the future you want for yourself. Forcing yourself to write online daily makes you the kind of person you want to be. You get out of your comfort zone and into your zone of genius.
- Learn a new, valuable skill. Everyone consumes. Few create. Hone the craft of being an effective, influential digital writer. You'll make yourself very valuable. Especially within healthcare! The world needs your simple, punchy way of breaking down a complex topic.
- *Bonus* Follow your heart. If you're still with me by point 11 and feel excitement about digital writing, it is your heart's way of saying, "Give it a try!" Follow that prompting. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain from.
Personal Benefits of Digital Writing
- I credit digital writing 100% to all the income I've earned as an entrepreneur since I started writing three years ago. That's > $1 Million. I still haven't used any paid advertising to earn any of that. All of my revenue has stemmed from my organic digital writing.
- I get to serve as an adjunct professor and on several advisory boards because of digital writing. I guarantee I'd not have been invited to any of those positions if I didn't sit down to type every day.
- I found a creative outlet through digital writing. I find true joy & expression in developing this skill.
- I've met some of my best friends online by writing and engaging with their writing.
- The entire trajectory of my career has changed. I'm no longer a PharmD who has to be a pharmacist. I gave up my license. I'm having the time of my life exploring other avenues that align with my talents and my interests. I am so free and get to have fun every day. This was all borne of writing online every day for 3 years. If I didn't start digital writing I guarantee I'd be in the same place today I was 10 years ago: working for a big company. Trading my time for money. Bringing zero of my special sauce to the world.
Digital writing isn't only for confident people who know their passion.
Digital writing is for:
- Cultivating the process of becoming who you want to be
- Practice building in public
- Honesty sharing how you'd change the world for good
- Creative expression
Digital writing is creating a better future for yourself. It will help others through the tiny habit of consistent, consumable writing online.
You don't have to do this for a business.
You don't have to do this to be an influencer.
It is your ticket to helping people in your unique way.
You are making yourself incomparable to anyone else in the world.
It is selfish to hold back your ideas. To not help people with your special sauce. Write, not for your own ego, but to help people who are looking for your right now.
